I don't have all the names - so help me out here..
but here's a few and how they turned out.....
There are precious FEW that could truly be called successful but that doesn't seem to stop them from trying over and over...
and it doesn't mean their decision was right or wrong - you be the judge.
-Nic Moore (ISU) - went to SMU, never made the NCAA Tourney but might have had he stayed at ISU - we'll never know. Did it help his career? Prob. not much, he's playing for a .500 club in the Italy pros.
-Marcus Arnold (ISU) - nuff said - he wasted 3 years at Illinois carrying the other players' bags
-Justin Dentmon (ISU) - never actually played at ISU but same thing- was recruited away and played his career at Washington. Didn't do badly, but could have had a truly special Fred Van Vleet-like career in the MVC.
-Reggie Lynch (ISU) - time will tell, but 8 ppg/6 rpg for a Minnesota team that was 7th in the Big Ten isn't gonna get his name called on Draft Day - but POB's name got called!
-MiKyle McIntosh (ISU) including him since he will land elsewhere - but I think he will be exposed as a good MVC player but average power-conference player
-Nick Zeisloft (ISU) - could have made a difference at ISU, but went for the role-player & sub/spot shooter role at IU.
-Sam Maniscalco (Bradley) - prob. made right call for him, but isn't an example of a great success who "moved up"
-Joey King (Drake) - jumped from Drake to Minnesota but I doubt even one Gopher fan in 10 remembers who he is.
-Jon Ekey (ISU) - seems ISU dominates this list - but Ekey is another example of a good kid who would have been better served to stay at ISU instead of Illinois
-Zach Lofton (ISU) totally bombed at Minnesota and got booted.
-Kwame Brown (Bradley) - no not the Kwame Brown who played in the NBA but how many people remember that Bradley had a kid in 1991 who transferred to Houston and never played there
-James Hamilton (Bradley) - didn't like Molinari's offense - so transferred to Iowa State. Unless you call scoring 3 ppg as a sub "GREAT" then I'd say he did not do great. - LINK
-Jordan Caroline (SIU) and Marcus Marshall (Missouri State) - both transferred to Nevada - kinda borderline "power conference" but a step "up", and both had a great year but they got whalloped in their first round NCAA game.
-Kevin Dillard & Anthony Booker (SIU) both had issues at SIU and bolted - Booker wasted his next 3 years at Iowa State, Dillard had a couple good years at Dayton (really a horizontal move, not really "up") but remember - SIU made the SWEET 16 in 2007 and could have had great success had Dillard stayed but instead garnered one single NIT appearance and went one-and-done.
Personally, I think both owuld have done better in the MVC.
-Rayvonte Rice (Drake) - to Illinois - got to play under a little brighter lites and bigger crowds but still went nowhere and would have been a LEGEND had he chose to stay in the MVC
-Gene Teague (SIU) - went to Seton Hall and got to play and average 11 ppg moderate success but then Seton Hall didn't do squat either of those years.
-Dominik Olenjniczak (Drake) - big guy who had decent freshman year averaging 6.5ppg, 4.1rpg, but bolted and went to Ole Miss. Jury is still out - he has size, but then the SEC is filled with 6-10 guys and many are way more skilled. Time will tell - but he might sit the bench.
-A few more names - Bola Olaniyan to Alabama (hasn't played yet), Greg Echenique to Rutgers, Omari Grier to Rutgers, Drew Barham to Memphis, Sean Ogirri to Wyoming, and a few others that were even more forgettable - none really had arguably better careers or results having LEFT the MVC!
