  • Bradley's 2017-18 Basketball Schedule

We don't know much but there are a few hints at what's coming...
If anyone knows more, let us know...

-We seem to always do one of the early season tournaments (Las Vegas, Corpus Christi, Ft. Myers..) so I suspect we will have one again with a chance of facing at least one solid or power-conference opponent

-we have just completed a home & home with both Ball State and Delaware, so it is possible we may do those once again, altho the series with Ball State was said to be "home and home".

-We have completed a home & home with Ole Miss, but I have a strong suspicion we still owe them one AT OLE MISS

-We have completed a home & home with TCU, so we may still owe them one more at TCU

-We played at EIU last year so I have a very strong suspicion we will host them this year and maybe next

-Home games last year with Chicago State & SEMO were likely one-time buy games, but those are also possibilities

-MVC-MWC Challenge - I assume this will still be in effect, and we should play a road game since we hosted Nevada last year
When the announcement was made in 2015, it was stated that games would begin 2015-16 and it was a 4-year agreement, so we still should have two years of the MVC-MWC Challenge.

-MVC League schedule, not sure how many games since it isn't even known how many teams will be in the MVC

-Likely March 1-4 - MVC Conference Tournament - again, not sure of format since the number of teams is not known.
One thing we do know for sure, it will still be in St. Louis.

The Bradley game at San Diego State as part of the MWC-MVC Challenge will be played on Sunday, December 3.

Braves Draw San Diego State in MVC – Mountain West Challenge
The first piece of the 2017-18 Bradley men's basketball schedule was unveiled on Wednesday as the pairings were announced for the Missouri Valley Conference – Mountain West Challenge Series. Bradley is slated to travel and face perennial power San Diego State on Sunday, Dec. 3 as part of the annual challenge.

This is the first official mention of this game by Bradley, though it is not really news. We knew as far back as May 15 that Bradley would play San Diego State in this year's MVC-MWC Challenge. The only thing new is the date is now set for Dec. 3-

...possibly NORTHERN KENTUCKY in the first game (see below)

                - @ Ole Miss, and maybe SEMO, and supposedly Chicago State - altho I am not sure. Those may have been one-time "buy games" in 2016-17

                - Home vs. EIU, Delaware, IUPUI plus at least one more to be added as well as exhibitions

                and from a Vermont article
"...the seeding for the eight-team Bahamas tournament is based on the previous year’s RPI"

Here are the RPI's of the teams projected for this tourney
                45 Vermont
                84 Iona
                85 Northern Kentucky
                174 Coastal Carolina
                177 Weber State
                219 Bradley
                258 Texas-San Antonio
                266 Duquesne

...so, if the Classic Tourney setup happens, we would get Northern Kentucky in game-1, then face the winner of Iona/UTSA if we advance..

Just since this article five days ago, there seems to be some hint that perhaps Iona will not participate in the Bahamas Tournament - yet to be confirmed, but they landed a big payday with a BUY GAME at Syracuse in mid-November - and they have yet to officially confirm the Bahamas participation.

Bradley plays at Chicago State on December 16 according to CSU's schedule released yesterday:

My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

That fits with the rumors we've heard for a couple months that Chicago State would be among the non-conference opponents. The surprise is that we are playing a road game in the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on the lovely campus of Chicago State University.
It is actually a nice arena for basketball, opened in 2007. It seats 7,000, but unfortunately they draw only a few hundred per game. Bradley fans will not have trouble getting tickets.

Last year's entire non-conference schedule was released by Bradley on June 10, 2016-

But this year, as we approach July and the deadline for renewing season tickets, there have been rumors and reports from other schools like Chicago State about some of the games that will be on the schedule (see above), but still not been a single official word about the schedule from Bradley, except for the San Diego State game (MVC/MWC Challenge). What is the reason they aren't releasing any information about any games?
I have heard from a couple season ticket holders that they are waiting to hear the home non-conference schedule before they renew, and the deadline is a week away.

Also, one has to wonder if the Bahamas tournament that Bradley has still not acknowledged, may be in jeopardy. Every other early-season tournament has been confirmed and publicized for months, yet other than a couple mysterious tweets by 3rd parties, there is still no official report anywhere that the Bahamas Showcase even exists. The company supposedly running the tournament (bd Global) has not released a single bit of info about it, their website does not even mention it, and they are not replying to inquiries about it.
Plus, one of the original 8 teams initially rumored in the Bahamas Showcase may have pulled out. Iona is no longer listed by a couple websites among the rumored teams in the tournament.
Could this tournament end up falling apart and getting cancelled altogether? The whole thing, IMO, is starting to look a little dubious.
If they expect fans to travel to the Bahamas for this tournament, they need to get their act together and get this tournament finalized and get the information out, or just cancel the thing and allow the schools who are being held hostage to move on.

Maybe the schedule is so woefully bad, they are afraid it will have a negative impact on season ticket sales. I can't believe we've sunk so low that we have to play an away game at Chicago State. They are consistently one of the worse programs in D-1 basketball.
