So by making such deals, we save close to $1 mil (the usual going price to "buy" a game is around $100K) by getting those teams 10 times
I'm not familiar with the particulars of a 2-for-1. How is BU saving money? Isn't there money exchanged in a 2-for-1? Those teams playing on the road twice in exchange for a home game aren't going to play for free, are they?

Thanks for your reply, T (or anyone).
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

if we simply pay a team to come here to play - we generally have to pay $80K to $100K

but if we do five 2-for-1's then those teams come and play here TEN times total and all they keep is the revenue from when we go there for the road games (or sometimes a negotiated split in $$)

In other words - ten "buy games" would cost us $800K to $1 mil
but the ten games we get to do the 2-for-1's only cost us what we have to spend to go out on a road game at IUPUI or GA So.

We save bunches... and have the chance to maybe go 10-0, in contrast to going to some place like Memphis or Arizona and bringing home the $80-100K but knowing we also will be bringing home a butt-kicking loss.

I have and will continue to support both BU and the basketball program. Ts comments are interesting in that this schedule may be a cost saving measure. However that concerns me greatly. To me this schedule is unacceptable and leads us down a bad path. It does not build interest in the program, stabilize ticket sales, or position the team to succeed in the conference. We need better.

houston, we would all like to see more familiar teams, better teams, BCS teams on our home schedule....
and I know you have heard it before but - I believe it is just Very hard -- they won't play us when we are on the rise and return 100% of our scoring...

it is what it is....but it isn't because of laziness and I guarantee Dr. Reynolds isn't sitting in his office sipping margaritas and playing darts..

If what T said is correct, the 18-19 schedule is almost set in stone. There will be just two slots vacated, those currently held by Delaware and Ole Miss, so, hopefully, a couple decent teams could be enticed to come to Peoria.

The Missouri S&T slot will probably go to another lower division school. T didn't say anything about whether the Little Rock game was part of a 2-for-1.

don't know - that could be a one-time guarantee game where we are simply paying them a fee to come here.
We will know if they are on our schedule next year.

Well - sorry for beating a dead horse on this issue...

Dr. Reynolds & staff .... here are a few more ideas
-- would still love to see a few summer events with the players - something like the cookout on the quad
-some open practices this summer - especially so the fans can come & see the new guys...
hopefully we'll see some fall events-
Fan-Appreciation breakfasts & lunches, open practices, etc...
...still hoping to hear news regarding
                  -open practices (the Red/White)
                  -soccer tailgate
-any fan-appreciation breakfasts or community events
                  ...

but now with the release of the schedule, there are no more fan events for two months (the ITOO Supper).

It would be nice if a few things were added in the fall for the fans...
this is the prime time of the year to spark interest and sell tickets.
I know its a busy time, but fans are always looking for a way to stay involved!!

The time of year to generate fan interest and keep fan interest is during the basketball season. You do that by having a competitive program and playing average above average non con competition at home. You can have all the cookouts, meet & greets, auctions and everything else. That interest is only temporary unless you provide a total product throughout the year. I predict with this non conference home schedule, you will see no significant rise in attendance even the team should be better than in years past.

it seems like the exhibition game we have vs. Robert Morris may count as a regular season game for them
It is not designated as an exhibition..
They were really good last year (27-7) but their top players have graduated (Darius Paul, Antonio Levy, Darius Randolph)

BTW- wanna see how hard it is for a GOOD mid-major to get people to come & play them?
Stephen F. Austin has been very good - they have averaged 25 wins per season over the past DECADE -
Illinois' Brad Underwood won 89 games in just 3 seasons there before getting hired away...

They struggled mightily to get anyone to come play them in their arena in NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS

So - their home schedule contains...St. Edwards, Letourneau, Howard Payne, Florida A&M, ND State, Louisiana-Monroe, Rice & Arlington Baptist
...that's TWO DII's, ONE DIII, a school that doesn't even have any affiliation with NCAA or NAIA (Arlington-Baptist is a tiny NCCAA school with just 220 enrollment!)
                      then...the other teams had RPI's last year of 349, 110, 294, 173
Sadly- nobody wants to go there and play them..

One other example- LIU-Brooklyn was surprisingly tough last year - 20-12 overall but this year, they can't get anyone to come play them and have settled for...
"College of New Rochelle" as a home opener, then Hartford, Stony Brook, Fairfield & St. Peters - then everything else on the road.

I have seen no mention of this year's preseason Red-White scrimmage...
hopefully there will be news on that soon so we can add it to the calendar..

Usually it is held later part of October
Last year it was Oct. 23
in 2015 it was Oct. 31
in 2014 it was Oct. 29
in 2013 when Chet Walker appeared and signed autographs it was held Oct. 18

SEMO has now posted the time for the game we play there on Wed. December 20

The game starts at 1pm - kind of an odd start time for a WEDNESDAY game..
