  • MVC Women's and Men's Golf Championship

Apologize for being late on this but the Women's golf team competed in the Missouri Valley Conference championships on the 16-18 at Dalhousie C. C. in Cap Girardeau, Missouri. They finished 3rd with a 3 day total of 943. They were in 2nd after a first round 308 and also had a 3rd round score of 309 but a 2nd round 326 helped them finish 10 shots behind Wichita and 30 shots behind Missouri State. The Braves were led by Freshman Taylor Ledwein who shot rounds of 74, 78 and 73 for a total of 225 and finished tied for 5th. Junior Ally Scaccia finished tied for 11th as she shot rounds of 78, 82 and 75 for a score of 235. Sophomores Frankie Saban and Chloe Horton tied for 28th with a 243 and Junior Grace Henderson tied for 34th with a 245. As you can see all 5 should be back next year. Scaccia was named all conference as she averaged 76.24, which was the 9th best ever in school history. Not only was Ledwein all conference she was named the MVC Newcomer of the Year. She averaged 75.97, which was the 7th best ever school history.

The men are competing at Cog Hill in Lemont in the MVC Championships and are in 5th after day , 22 shots behind Wichita State. They had rounds of 308 and 302. Pekin grad Drake Bushong is tied for 10th with a 150, El Paso grad Branden Mounce is tied for 13th with a 151, AC Central and ICC grad and Illini Golf Employee Ethan Brue is tied for 21st with a 154, Limestone and ICC grad Zach Jewell is tied for 27th with a 155 and Munster, Indiana grad Matthew Specht is tied for 32 with a 157.

Unfortunately the men's golf team had their worst round of the tournament with a team score of 317 and slipped from 5th to 7th with a 54 hole score of 927. Wichita beat ISU Red by 5 strokes. The men's teams season might have ended on a down note but it doesn't take away the fact that they had possible one of the best seasons in BU history as they finished 1st four times, 2nd once and 3rd twice along with 5 individual 1st places. Sophomore Drake Bushong tied for 14th with a final round 77. With that 77 Bushong set a school record with his 34th round of shooting under 80. His scoring average of 73.91 was the 6th best all time at BU and he was named to the 1st team all MVC team for his 2nd straight year. Sophomore Braden Mounce tied for 21st with a final round 81. Juniors Ethan Brue and Matthew Specht tied for 32nd with Brue shooting an 81 and Specht shooting a 78. Junior Zach Jewell tied for 41st with a final round of 86. Along with being named 1st time all MVC Brue was also named the MVC Newcomer of the Year. Etan's scoring average of 73.43 was the 5th best all time at BU. All 5 guys who played most of this season are expected back for next year. 3 other local players were also competing at the MVC Championships. For ISU Red East Peoria grad David Perkins finished in 16th, Metamora grad Trey Tussey finished in 17th and Dunlap grad and former Illini Golf employee Matt Lavery finished in 35th.
