  • BU recruiting update- transfer Sam Logwood considering Bradley

A former Bradley recruit, Sam Logwood, left New Mexico a couple weeks ago and is still searching for a school to transfer to-

This morning, he told CBS Sports college basketball writer Jon Rothstein that he is still considering Bradley-

If you read that entire thread from the recruiting board about Sam Logwood, he is from Indianapolis, Indiana and played the first couple years of his high school career at Lawrence North HS. Geno Ford offered a scholarship to Bradley back in November, 2012. He played his last couple years at La Lumiere Prep Academy in LaPorte, Indiana. He originally committed to Auburn, but eventually renegged and then committed to New Mexico.

He played 3 seasons at New Mexico-
As a freshman, he started 16 of 24 games and averaged 6.1 ppg. As a sophomore, he started all 32 games and averaged 6.3 ppg, and as a junior, he started 18 of 29 games, and averaged 7.4 ppg. He has shot 40% from three the last 2 seasons.

He apparently is not a grad-transfer, so he would have to sit out a full year and have only 1 year of eligibility left after that. I am not sure it makes sense to tie up a scholarship for 2 years just to get 1 year out of a transfer. Plus, as of now, Bradley doesn't have any open scholarships.

Logwood was rated quite high - even 4-Star by one recruiting service and was getting Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, SEC offers...

then something happened and when he reneged his Auburn offer - he dropped back to 3-Star

I have to think this Bradley connection is based maybe on some conversations he might have had with our staff (specifically Drew Adams who was an assistant at New Mexico when Logwood was recruited there) - before we landed Lundy...
but I agree it is very unlikely now...since we don't have an open scholarship - his production and numbers are not that impressive, and he seems to have peaked between his freshman & sophomore seasons - and is effectively a 6 ppg scorer with a career shooting pcts of about 40% overall and 35% from 3-pt
plus he doesn't add much at all in rebounding and hardly ever records assists, blocks, steals..
AND, if he is not a grad transfer, we lose a scholarship for two years on the guy

We have EIGHT players returning already who average between ~6-8 ppg - and all of them have better shooting percentages, so who's he gonna take playing time from?

Not to quibble but DC indicated he shot 40% from the three during the last two seasons. I doubt if too many current BU players are averaging over 40% from the three in college ball during their time at Bradley. I would not count shooting 40% in high school or JC in the same category as shooting 40% in Division I ball.

That being said I would doubt that Bradley is interested in Logwood at this time.

also not to quibble but in 30 games he made a grand total of 10 3-pointers this past season so it's such a small sample size that I can't buy that the guy is gonna help us with his 3-pt prowess

Only way I could see him coming is if he payed his own way during his transfer year then took a scholarship the following year. Someone with his length who can shoot 40% from three would be very valuable at the 3 or occasionally the 4.

However it is worth noting he doesn't shoot many threes per game. He averaged .8 per game last year when he cracked 40% for the first time. His freshman year he attempted 2 a game while only shooting 30% before scaling back the attempts the last two years and improving his accuracy greatly.

If he payed his own way I would take him, or if someone all of a sudden decided he wanted to leave in the next week or two it would make sense to look his way.
          Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

As I have said, I wish we were trying to land another quality big man, instead of another guard. Where is all the playing time going to come from for Pittman, Brown, Kennell, Hodgson, DLO, Jojo, Stipanovich, Lundy, and now maybe Pickett or Logwood?

Probably a smart move for a guy with just 1 year of eligibility left.

Here's an article on La Lumiere - one of the top prep basketball programs

but the article seems to be trying hard to say a few things.... and they are duping the SB Tribune into being their spinmeisters..
                      They claim..
                      - that they don't go out and recruit their players or try to lure and land the top high school kids in the midwest..
-that they are all about academics and not really a basketball playing diploma factory
                      - and that they don't offer scholarships..

but the heck they don't go out and recruit top players and build a powerhouse team... that's exactly what they do...

...and it's NOT all about academics - in fact some of their players move on and fail academically at their next step - ask Bobo Drummond, AJ Riley, Johnathon Wilkins or Obij Aget or numerous others who did not gain initial eligibility thru the NCAA Clearinghouse or had to do an extra year of prep school or go juco or non-qualifier route

..and maybe some how they can play word games so that scholarship statement is defensible, but those kid definitely do get their costs covered a large part of the time.

..and we can argue if any of the dozens of La Lumiere kids they have churned out - even the 4-STAR and 5-Star kids - have ever been much impact at the next level...but they have a bunch more top recruits this year, so time will tell
