it's costing somebody well over $3 mil per year to keep Gregg there...and even tho they will tell you it is "privately funded" - gimme a break - that's still money that coming from someone who would have likely given it to the program anyway but now it lands in Gregg's pocket
That $3.3 million is half their entire budget for basketball - and more than the full basketball budget of all the other MVC schools.

Hey Vent,I agree with you.I think there is alot of jealous and two faced people on this board.I always like Wichita St.including Greg Marshall.I always looked forward to going to St Louis and seeing the sea of yellow.I talked to many of there great fans, nice people and they always spoke highly of Bradley.I wish them nothing but success in the AAC.

I don't see it that way - and I find it odd that you attack fellow Bradley fans when we have absolutely NOTHING to do with the decisions the Wichita people make.
I am an intensely loyal and die-hard Bradley fan, plus I root for the MVC.
I really have little reason to cheer for teams in other conferences but it isn't because I am two-faced and jealous.
What still gets my goat, is that we ran off a very good coach and went from competitive to literally the worst program in Division I overnight and are still struggling to recover - and all because a few people demanded we run off the head coach**

Originally posted by Vent View PostI think you will find that Wichita will do quite well with moving up to a better conference. A lot of people thought Creighton would go downhill when McDermott graduated and they'd lose a lot more games in the Big East. They actually had a pretty good team this year. As for Wichita, they will find it easier to recruit upper tier talent than it was in the Valley. It will be beneficial in the recruiting process to promote your schedule when you play teams such as Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, UCONN, Houston, Temple and etc. as opposed to Evansville, Drake, Indiana State, Loyola. This isn't a rap against the Valley, it is just a fact that the AAC is a better basketball conference. Better players like to play against better teams. Yes they will probably lose a few more games playing much better competition than if they stayed in the Valley. If Wichita did fall flat on their face, they would be the first school to leave the Valley that it happened to.
But there have been a couple that left the Valley and didn't do quite as well after leaving, including:
West Texas State (now West Texas A&M) left the Valley in 1985, and shortly afterward dropped down to Division II.
St. Louis University left the MVC in 1974. They went 12 years before their next winning season, and 20 years before they made it to the NCAA Tournament. Some at SLU wish they had never left the MVC.
And, Tulsa left the MVC in 1996 after 3 NCAA Tournament seasons in a row, and joined the WAC, which was a pretty good conference back then (it is a woefully bad conference now). Though they did well in the WAC for the first few years, they then fell on hard times, had several losing seasons in a row, abandoned the WAC as it went downhill and moved to the Conference USA, and went 11 years without an NCAA appearance. They have really never regained the national status and success they had in the MVC.

That's correct about West Texas. In fact when they entered the league it was nothing more than a numbers game. Other than a year or two when Mo Cheeks was there, they were never much of a factor in anything, including attendance. When they left the league nobody really cared. That was a dreadful road trip that was tied in with New Mexico State. Both of those schools were added to the league, after the defection of Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis and St. Louis. Tulsa on the other hand has turned into a pretty good football school since leaving the Valley. They have appeared in multiple bowl games and that would not have happened if they stayed in the league. From a basketball standpoint, if they were still in the Valley, they would be one of the better teams, even though they haven't gone to a lot of post season tournaments. St. Louis is a strange situation. If you remember, the last several years they were in the Valley, their program was deteriorating from what it once was.
