looks like Kentucky's entire STARTING five are leaving to pursue pro opportunities...
most are freshman, sophs...
Is this what college athletics was intended? Kids that come, play one year then ditch their educational opportunities and leave?
Expect more rule changes but I doubt they will extend the mandatory period from one year to 2 years - cuz that'll send a lot of pro-caliber kids straight overseas for a couple years then can try NBA draft
There may be no team in DI hit harder by players transferring than MEMPHIS..
several of their top players are leaving and transferring leaving open scholarships and Memphis head coach Tubby Smith scrambling to find anyone with DI talent to fill them......and one of he departing players having a few unkind things to say...
I hope anyone considering transferring in at Memphis checks on why this is happening...

Speculation is that since he plays behind Landry Shamet, his playing time will be sparse...so looking elsewhere.

But as the season progressed, his playing time dwindled to as little as 6 minutes per game, as Gregg Marshall went with a taller lineup with Landry Shamet playing more point guard.
He was one of their better perimeter shooters at 38.4% from three. He will need to sit out a year if he transfers to another D1 school.
We all know that it is all about money in the top echelons of college ball. We have heard that the top schools want to not risk playing the lower schools because of the risk (cost) of losing to a lower school. Now we see all of the transferring and player movement that is not intended by the NCAA system.
I just had a crazy idea and I do not know all of the implications, but why not have revenue sharing in the NCAA and level the playing field? This is what the NFL does. Most games are exciting to watch. No one knows who is going to win or lose an NFL game as most games come down to 2-3 plays that determine the outcome.
I am sure I am not seeing the whole picture here, but I want to toss this out for discussion.

and I am not sure how you're ever gonna get the schools like Notre Dame, Villanova, or even Bradley to want to share revenue with, say a WIU or NC A&T...

Of course, you are right. I only think about the benefits and some way to make NCAA M BB more competitive for the fans. The arrogance of some of the top coaches, or those that are on their way to the top really bugs me. A coach is someone you should look up to, but some of them think they are above the law and what is decent. One of those top coaches publicly said, and Im paraphrasing, ....if I want your player I am just going to take him.... I just love it when a mid major knocks off a BCS school. I'd like the entire NCAA field to be more competitive, but money is the issue.
there are teams who dominate, some are very successful and some not so...
BUT - we don't see the Yankees trying to collude with the Dodgers, the Cards, and a few others..to split off from MLB and form their own league so they can keep a bigger share of the money..
We don't see the Packers, the Pats, the Steelers - trying to form their own league and break away from the NFL so they have all the limelight and more money
And we don't see Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Matt Damon colluding to make special deals with the Hollywood studios to only market their films and exclude the lesser stars...
but in College FB and a lesser extent College BKB this is what we see and they're getting greedier and greedier...
Funny thing, tho is that most of the bigger schools STILL lose money - only a handful are truly profitable...
Like what happened here - even in the midst of revenue shortages, they spend like crazy on themselves, wasteful, corrupt and then use their cash shortfall for the reasoning to be all the more greedy and corrupt.

I think part of the problem is the NCAA does not do what they say they do. They are propagating this situation. They are partial to the bigger schools. They are afraid of their power and intimidation. The NCAA puts more emphasis on whether a State has an extra bathroom for Transgenders than a school bringing in prostitutes for their recruits like Louisville. They create a quideline for mid majors to raise their RPI ( scheduling better) knowing the bigger schools wont do that
I wonder what would happen if the BCS schools got together and tried to form their own club. There have been some past posts about this. Id like to hear what you all think about this? Wouldn't it be a disaster if they somehow formed a unique segment and only played each other to avoid getting destroyed by a mid major or a lower BCS school?

Those are some excellent points that I have been thinking about also. I am thinking about starting a separate thread devoted just to that. Would love to see everyone's ideas on that
