  • Gregg Marshall's wife causes a scene

Gregg Marshall's wife caused a bit of a scene at the WSU-Kentucky game. But the most interesting part of this was that one of the Kentucky writers was asked by NCAA officials to remove a tweet and a video of her, and and stop talking about her.

Security at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis reportedly had to talk to Lynn Marshall — the wife of Wichita State Shockers head coach Gregg Marshall — about her behavior during Sunday's game against the Kentucky Wildcats...

After reading several articles it sounds like if it was anybody other than the wife of Gregg Marshall they would've been arrested.

I agree with you as I've read several articles too. You should not disrespect players or anyone else.

I'm going back and forth figuring out how to address this. But I think this is some total hypocrisy.

Come on. How many times have we seen coaches (even our own) mouth just as bad if not worse things on the court. You mean to tell me you've never been watching a pro sport and catch the head coach obviously drop some bad words towards another coach/ref/player?

You've never seen student sections (or just regular fans) yell similar things? Our student section definitely yelled just as bad if not worse things.

What is the difference here? Is it because shes a wife? I don't think that is it because again I've seen coaches drop bad language directed at other players/teams plenty of times.

You think Jim Les didn't have a mouth on him? Cause I saw him flip his stuff many, many times.

She should have been treated just like any other fan who uses abusive and offensive language.
More than once in recent years Bradley has had a fan thrown out of Carver Arena for yelling at referees, and I can guarantee the fan I am referring to did not use profanity and vulgarity like Lynne Marshall was reportedly screaming. It is offensive and other fans, especially with children, and they should not have to listen to it. That kind of fan behavior should never be tolerated. If she wasn't the coach's wife, she would have been ejected from the arena long before the game was over.

but the coaches do get "T"ed up for their abusive language...
shouldn't fans also face some discipline for abusive or offensive language?
Hey, I sit very near the court and I have been shouting very loud for over 30 years...but I have never been told to shut up or tone it down - so obviously there's a difference..
the difference is how foul the language is..

This was neither a home arena nor a road arena...it was a neutral site and so how much more impartial can you get, yet their game management and ushers made the call and decided she was over the line.
However - the security guards actually gave her WAY more leeway because she was the coaches wife...
saying.... “we have to be delicate because she is the coach’s wife.”
So she was actually given preferential treatment because of who she was!

Recall that during the incident the Kentucky sports writer was told to remove & delete video of the incident from his twitter then threatened with the loss of his NCAA media credentials if he did not comply! He was told that he was not allowed to report that or he would be banned from all NCAA arenas!!
Censoring & telling a journalist to remove his reporting is, in my judgement, way, way more over the line than kicking a loud-mouthed, verbally offensive fan from the arena. Whose rights were stomped on the worst?
