UC-Davis has the top RPI (63) in the Big West (& non-conf SOS 57) - that would place them at the top of the MVC in RPI as well
Unfortunately, despite the terrific RPI of 63 (better than any team in the MVC) there is no way they will get an at-large bid in the Big West Conference, so Jim will have to win the Big West Tournament again like they did last year. But they are good enough to do it. They only have 1 senior on this year's team who plays a significant role, but he is the leading scorer and rebounder, so they will need to replace his production after this year. But they are set to be good next year and beyond. Jim has built UC Davis into the top program in their league, from a team that was relatively new to Division I, had almost no talent or athleticism, and had never had a winning record as a D1 team before he got there. I think if he makes a second NCAA Tournament in a row, he will get some calls from other higher schools.

UC-Davis won their 17th consecutive home game last night (4th longest such winning streak in all of DivisionI) -
they haven't lost at home since the 2015-16 season!
And once again -they are in the hunt for their league championship -- Go Aggies!! (my 2nd favorite team)

One more thing- Coach Les' 2018 Letter of Intent signee Damion Squire got a fair bit of NATIONAL publicity just this past week-
he hit a GAME WINNING 70-foot buzzer beater to win a big tournament game and the shot made the ESPN TOP TEN Plays

Coach Les sure knows point guards...
His two main guys last year, Brynton Lemar (16.1 ppg, 39% 3-pt shooting - who is now playing pro in France) and Darius Graham (7.3 ppg/and led the team in assists)
are both gone, but Coach Les' recruiting has assured there's no lull in quality PG talent......
This year he landed TJ Shorts this year who has become the starting PG (13 ppg/4 apg) and has backup Arell Hennings (4 ppg/2 apg in just 11 min) but also has a guy redshirting who will be a key part next year along with Squire.

also - congrats to Paula Buscher & assistant Dodie Dunson- as they have SIUE-WBB at 6-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference!!

The writer of that article included this comment-

Most of his energy is devoted to coaching the next game, landing the next recruit, plotting the next step for a UC Davis basketball program that made its inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance last year
Les simply wants a lot more. Another Big West tournament title. Another trip to the Big Dance. That first NCAA Tournament victory. And who knows? Maybe that first five-star recruit.

But she is wrong about "that first NCAA Tournament victory". Jim's UC Davis team won their conference tournament last year and received an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament. They were among the "First Four" that played in Dayton. They the beat North Carolina Central in their first game, before losing to the #1 seeded Kansas Jayhawks. Even though it was the "First Four" round, that still counts as an NCAA Tournament game, and an NCAA Tournament win for Jim and for UC Davis.

UC Davis tops North Carolina Central in NCAA tournament First Four

According to the official NCAA record book, UC Davis' NCAA Tournament record is now 1-1. Because Jim Les went 2-1 with the Bradley team in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, Jim's NCAA Tournament coaching record is now 2-2.

Edit: Jim Les' correct NCAA Tournament record is 3-2 (see below)

Yes, you are right. I also muffed Jim's NCAA record. He is 3-2, and is in the small minority of coaches in the history if Division I who have a lifetime winning NCAA Tournament record.

Congrats to Coach Les for another milestone..

He has already won his 100th game at UC-Davis!
Not only is he the fastest to ever win 100 games for UC-Davis, but he is the FIRST & only to do it in their Division I era!!

I wish Bradley would get a chance to play UCD this year or next year, even if it had to be in a postseason tournament. That might be what it finally takes to lay the animosity from Les' firing to rest, and bring a great Braves legend (or two) back into the fold.

UC Davis beat Cal Poly for their 19th straight home win by beating Cal Poly 80-56. They are now 14-7.

UC Davis has the 3rd longest home court winning streak in the country at 19 games. Only Cincinnati (37) and Purdue (20) have longer home court winning streaks. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year after they lost 4 starters from last year's NCAA team, but they are playing well. They are now 14-7, 5-2 and ?? game out in the Big West standings.

Just looked at the UC Davis website. Wish BU could get a crowd like they have pictured.

no, their average is a lot lower - very dependent on how many students come...

overall average is 1,724 but 2,000-3,000 for conference games...

their avg historically was 800-1200 in the pre-JL era with a few years higher..
so in the interval since he left here, their average has doubled, ours has dropped by half..
