If the vote were held today it would be invalid because the season is not over!

Lets face it, Creighton, UNI, Missouri State, and SIU are all pretty much right where they were predicted, sitting on top on the Valley.
Wichita is way below where they were picked, so those who would have given the COY to Turgeon a couple weeks ago have shown themselves to be a bit off.
So the COY is between Royce and Jim Les, but Les had less returning to work with than Royce, so the nod is to JL.
POY-? really tough. Toliver, Stout, Coleman, Franklin, Funk, Ahearn, Falker. You pick
NOY between Stinson, Holmstrom, and Eldridge, but the nod goes to the guy on the winning team, so it's Stinson.

I will repost the freshman stats, top 6 guys, as it has been posted elsewhere.

        ....................MPG...PPG...RPG...APG...SPG

        Stinson, InS....25.3..12.9...3.1...1.0...0.6
        Holmstrom,InS.29.6..10.5...2.5...1.0...0.6
        Young, DU......22.3...9.6...1.8...2.2...0.7
        Eldridge,ISU ...20.8...8.4...3.6...0.8...1.1
        Miles, CU........23.2...7.3...2.1...1.9...1.0
        Warren, BU.... 16.7...5.4...2.2...1.0...0.6

So far one of the Indiana State guys has to get the freshman of the year,
but if we count all NEWCOMERS, then ISU's top 3 players are all newcomers (Slack, Richardson, Johnson) so do any of them get the NOY?
I'd say not if ISU is in last place, because it shows they didn't help their team one bit.

Having watched Indiana State in person, my impression of their 2 freshmen is that they are not very good passers and they take a lot of bad shots. Royce Waltman benched Marico Stinson for a major part of the Bradley game because of his poor shot selection (he only played 17 minutes). But at least his shooting percentage is good--- 46% overall, and 44% from 3.

Cole Holmstrom is the one Waltman should have benched (he played 33 minutes). I was not as impressed with him. He was 3-12 in the game, and I was amazed at some of the bad shots he took. His shooting percentages are really bad, 32% overall and 32% from 3. And he has only 15 assists for the entire season! I think now that teams know about Stinson and Holmstrom, they will continue to have trouble scoring.

The freshmen who I think have been the most impressive have been Isaac Miles of Creighton and Josh Young of Drake. By the end of the season, these 2 will be the top freshmen in the league. Eldridge has the potential to be a top player in the MVC, but he needs to improve his passing and shooting. Plus, the fact that ISU is at the bottom of the league won't help King-O

One other note- Andrew Warren has skills and athleticism equal or better than any freshman I have seen in the MVC. But with the depth at guard that Bradley has, Andrew's minutes will be more limited than the other 5 guards on that list, and he won't rack up as many points. But he is a very important part of Bradley's future and I wouldn't trade him for any of the other freshmen.

Here's a little about Royce and Stinson.

"Marico Stinson didn???‚¬?„?t play in the first nine minutes of the second half. Waltman was irate with Stinson during a first half timeout for a missed defensive assignment, ISU started Todd McCoy in the second half, but Waltman hinted that the change had more to do with shot selection.

???‚¬?“I don???‚¬?„?t want to get down on Marico, because he???‚¬?„?s saved our bacon so many times. We???‚¬?„?ve accepted some pretty questionable shots from him over the last several games because he???‚¬?„?s made so many of them. Tonight, we paid a little bit of a price for allowing that to be done. We???‚¬?„?ve probably allowed too many bad shots all along,???‚¬?? said Waltman, referring to Stinson???‚¬?„?s 2 of 8 shooting."
