  • Dan Muller is my hero

OK, that's a little strong, but I love the conversation he has started. The guy has a little Dick Versace in him, and he said what needed to be said.

The comments are overwhelmingly on his side.

He Tweeted an invitation to the Power 5 to do home and homes:

"ACC BIG 10 BIG 12 SEC PAC 12 BIG EAST. It's me again. Looking 4 home & home next year. Pls call me 4 chance 4 QUALITY road win, top 33 RPI"

Let's see if his phone rings. But way to go, Dan Muller. I hope you win the NIT like we did in '82.

EDIT: Apparently this site doesn't like the word "*****ic" in the URL link and changes it to asterisks. Just type in the word "i-d-i-o-t" (no hyphens) where the asterisks are to go to the link. Or maybe type in "Selection Committee." Same thing.
    Yajusneverno!

I agree. He spoke up and is saying what needs to be said.. Now others need to get off the fence and support him.. this NCAA mentality needs to change

FWIW- the word i-d-i-o-t is one of the few banned words. It goes back many years when there were a few vulgar people who loved to insult other posters. We haven't that problem now for years, so I will probably remove it from the banned list.

          ISU's current RPI = 33, and current SOS = 124

in 2007 Bradley's RPI was 38 and SOS was 20

can someone remind me - did our coach go public with all the whining and alibi making when we got snubbed and went to the NIT?

MVC was 6th overall in 2007 (ahhh the glory days)

MVC is 12th overall in 2017...makes a big difference in overall RPI for individual conference teams.

              2017 ISU: 27-6 overall 17-1 in conference
              2007 Bradley: 20-12 overall 10-8 in conference

(see how much difference conference RPI makes?)

Also signature win was maybe iowa state? next was...rutgers?

BTW, there was no alibi making or whining going on - he's simply correcting the ridiculous characterizations of "just schedule better teams" that uneducated announcers are spewing and bringing visibility to the totally opaque and random selection criteria of the committee.

Your spin attempts are always impressive.

I totaly agree with Muller's comments. I don't see it as whining, I see it as him stumping for his program and in a way all "mid-majors". There is an obvious issue when the P5 schools will only schedule "buy" games with mid-majors. I think it has been posted previously on this site, but look at many of the P5 non-conference schedules. They rarely play true road games. Every year we hope to see better opponents at Carver only to be disappointed. The P5 hold a trump card that if you want a better schedule you have to go to them. I don't understand why we would jump on a coach that screwed by the current state of affairs that is trying to advocate for a change. Especially when we hope to have that kind of team soon.

BB- just a little ribbing - I suspect Bradley catches a bit over on the ISU board...
..but indeed we are being pummeled with this concept of ..
"This isn't ISU's fault, they deserve to be in but they are being dragged down
by a bunch of horrible teams in their conference"

but since when is this NEW?? In every year that someone got left out - it could likewise be argued that the weakness at the bottom of the conference was the cause.
UC-Davis got in....and FGCU got in...and both of them have LOTS more weakness at the bottom of their conferences..

Ultimately - I predict - that there will some day be two separate DI tournaments with the Major conferences holding their own and us other 280 mid-majors & low-majors holding a separate one - kinda what you guys already do for FB -- it's what we're head to

Versace certainly whined, and the point I remember most is the winner of the Valley deserves a spot in the dance. Even if the Valley is down, a team that goes through our conference 17-1 deserves an invite. Imagine Bradley going 17-1 and not getting invited.

It may have been discussed elsewhere on the site, but Coach Wardle has also tweeted about mid-majors' difficulty in scheduling games with good teams.

And you probably saw that Ole Miss responded to Muller's tweet.

scheduling is hard - that's nothing new - I found 2 dozen times we discussed that very thing in some thread over the past decade...
but my point is - why just use that argument now...?
we've known this fact for eons...you just gotta try to get the job done...
why do they have only the 5th strongest non-conference schedule in the MVC? They knew this was a special year with the best shot at having a solid team..

Note ISU's NON-CONFERENCE Strength of Schedule was 150 but their overall SOS was 123...
so it actually got BETTER playing the Valley opponents they are trying to blame..
If there's something about their schedule to blame it is their NON-CONFERENCE schedule - the part they are entirely 100% responsible for.

I find it sickening that ANY MVC fans would have a problem with Dan Muller calling out the BS that is scheduling for any team not in the precious P5/6. If anything, Valley fans have to stick together on this one.

Give it a rest on ripping Dan Muller. I agree with others that Muller is a hero for having the balls to go out and publicly blast the rigged scheduling system.
