The CBI will announce their 2017 tournament field shortly-
16-team men's college basketball postseason tournament

This will be the 10th year for the CBI. Bradley played in and finished runner-up to Tulsa in the first CBI in 2008.
Last year it was won by Nevada, and in 2015 it was won by Loyola of the MVC.

The CBI teams have been announced. There are no MVC teams included.
UIC is playing in the CBI against Stony Brook and assistant coach Geno Ford. He will have a reunion with his former assistant coach Chin Coleman.

Here is the bracket- their website crashed-

Congrats to Stoney Brook and Geno looks like their season is still going. Maybe next year we can still be playing.

In addition to the experimental rule changes the NIT will try out, the CBI will also experiment with some new rules-

The College Basketball Invitational, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, in an effort to assist the NCAA in its research in exploring the implementation of four 10-minute quarters rather than two 20-minute halves and increased scoring options, will utilize recent experimental playing rules adopted by the 2017 NIT, including resetting team fouls to zero at the end of 10-minute segments of each half and resetting the shot clock to 20 seconds instead of 30 seconds at times when the ball is inbounded in the front court.

In the experimental rule regarding resetting the team fouls, the one-and-one free throw bonus will not occur. Instead, teams will shoot two free throws in the following examples:

??? Each team is limited to a team total of four personal and technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls) during each 10-minute segment of each half.

??? The first 10-minute segment of each half will begin when the ball becomes live to begin the half and will end when the game clock reads 10:00. The second segment will begin when the game clock reads 9:59 and ends when the half ends.

??? When a team has reached the four-foul limitation, all subsequent personal and technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls) will be penalized by two free throw attempts.

??? Each team??™s foul total will reset to zero when any 10-minute segment has ended.

??? The rules regarding penalties for fouls in the act of shooting, flagrant fouls or technical fouls will not be affected by this experimental rule and will always result in two free throws unless the rules specifically say otherwise.

??? In any overtime period, when a team has reached a total of three personal and technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls), all subsequent personal and technical fouls will be penalized by two free throw attempts.

In the other experimental rule, the shot clock will remain the same as when play was interrupted or reset to 20 seconds, whichever is greater, at any time any of the following occurs:

??? A personal foul by the defense, which results in no free throws, and the ball is inbounded in the front court.

??? Any technical foul assessed against the defense, and the ball is inbounded in the front court.

??? The game is stopped for a bleeding player or blood on a uniform and the ball is inbounded in the front court.

UIC is playing in the CBI ...
Despite what the bracket appears to say, the Stony Brook site says that UIC is hosting and that they are playing in Chicago at UIC.

UIC was just 13-18 against DI opponents, with a 250
RPI and a 328 non-conference SOS... and lost 10 of their final 14 games down the stretch.
They were 1-14 against teams in the top 200 RPI and lunched up with a 12-4 record against the bottom-dwellers with RPI's worse than 200.
In what alternate universe would those credentials get a team in a post-season tournament?

But I understand you can BUY YOUR WAY IN to these tourneys, except I thought the Illinois state system was near-bankrupt and in financial crisis...
....so who's coming up with the $50-60K?

The bracket does show UIC as the home team. Note that it says "HOME TEAMS IN CAPS".

The CBI and the alphabet tournament that I can't think of, are nothing but tournaments that allow some teams to win 20 games and then brag about their number of wins. No Valley teams shows how weak the league is.

UIC is playing in this year's CBI. Here is their resume-

Record: 15-18 overall (only 13-18 vs. Division I), 7-11 in the Horizon League (the 17th ranked conference in RPI)

                    UIC RPI: 250, SOS 263, Non-conference SOS 328

Do they belong in a post-season tournament?
Has the CBI become a joke?

their record - especially against the schedule they played, is worse than ours and overall Bradley presents a BETTER candidate for the CBI than UIC...
we should have gone for it!!

I rest my case. I was not a fan of these two tournaments when Bradley played in them.

I always was in favor of them just because it gave the guys more playing time and experience and if it was a home game was another game to watch.

They were fun, and back in 2008 (CBI) and 2009 (CIT) they contained some pretty good teams. That has changed a lot since then. Most good teams decline invitations, and these tournaments are so hard up to fill that they take horrible teams like UIC and others.

Here is the 16 team field of the 2017 CBI ranked by RPI. It is a pretty pathetic group. Nearly all the teams finished lower in their own conference than other teams that are not playing in any postseason tournament, so clearly a lot of teams turned down invitations. And the CBI was desperate enough that they took 5 teams with overall losing records, more with losing records if only D1 opponents are counted, 6 teams that did not even have a winning record in their own conference, and 4 teams with RPI's over 200, including teams with RPI's of 250 and 284!.:

San Francisco 20-12, 10-8 in the West Coast Conference (tied for 4th), RPI 94
                            George Washington 19-14, 10-8 in the Atlantic 10 (6th place), RPI 102
                            George Mason 20-13, 9-9 in the Atlantic 10 (7th place), RPI 104
Georgia Southern 18-14, 11-7 in the Sun Belt (tied for 3rd), RPI 122
Eastern Washington 22-11, 13-5 in the Big Sky (2nd place), RPI 148
Wyoming 18-14, 8-10 in the MWC (7th place), RPI 152
Toledo 17-16, 9-9 in the MAC (3rd place in West, 7th best record overall), RPI 156
Green Bay 18-13, 12-6 in the Horizon (tied for 3rd), RPI 158
Rice 22-11, 11-7 in the CUSA (5th place), RPI 168
Stony Brook 18-13, 12-4 in American East (2nd place), RPI 177
Coastal Carolina 16-17, 10-8 in the Sun Belt (tied for 7th), RPI 183
UMKC 17-16, 8-6 in the WAC (4th place), RPI 184
Utah Valley 15-16, 6-8 in the WAC (5th place), RPI 205
Loyola (MD) 15-16, 8-10 in the Patriot League (tied for 6th), RPI 212
                            UIC 15-18, 7-11 in Horizon (6th place), RPI 250

Just announced- UIC's CBI home game with Stony Brook, originally scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, has been postponed until Thursday at 7:00 PM, due to weather conditions in New York that are expected to delay Stony Brook's trip to Chicago.
