Does anyone besides me remember the Caterpillar team playing Gonzaga in the Fieldhouse back when Cat used to played small colleges before their Industrial league games started? We used to go to the Bradley game on Saturday and the Cat game on Sunday. Always free admission for Cat games.

Chico, you amaze me - you must be a lot older than me...
I don't remember that but Cat did play in industrial leagues and other amateur competition well into the late 1950's, and I even have a few of their old game programs and yearbooks.
Here's a story on Gonzaga basketball that actually talks about exactly what you describe...
"Gonzaga .. basketball team had a good post-war run, but that was on
the small-college level and the campus fathers seemed perfectly content
playing a provincial schedule.
By his second year, Anderson opened the season with a midwest trip to
DePaul, Illinois State and AAU powerhouse Peoria Caterpillar, which won the
Olympic Trials in 1952."
Every home date a deafening sellout, every game on TV, every week in the Top 25 – the nonstop party of Gonzaga basketball slows only to consider its next conquest or buzz about the latest recruit. Occasionally, ancient history is toasted – the Elite Eight team of 1999, for instance. It is an impressive and wondrous thing, this Zagmania.
Just curious.... hasn't there been 3 different channels for the same game in the past? One for each teams fans and then one "neutral. Maybe I am wrong, but I have found only one for tonight's game.

They have done that for football but I don't remember it for the basketball game, that has been an ESPN thing.
