    mWichita State blowing out Evansville-
Box score for the Wichita State Shockers vs. Evansville Purple Aces NCAAM game from February 21, 2017 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

Currently 68-48 with almost 13 minutes left in the game.

We are bound to see more of these big blowouts now that the NCAA admitted that this year they will be using several of the newer analytic based rankings (Ken Pom, Jeff Sagarin, KPI, BPI, NPI), in addition to the RPI. Because some of these analytic formulas factor in margin of victory/loss, coaches of teams that are on or close to the edge of getting at large bids will try to run up scores to increase their ranking, and to impress selection committee members.

Gregg Marshall showing no mercy and running up the score on Evansville. It is now 94-66 with over 5 minutes left.

Final score: Wichita State 109 Evansville 83
Box score for the Wichita State Shockers vs. Evansville Purple Aces NCAAM game from February 21, 2017 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

Gregg Marshall finally pulled his starters only after they had a 31 point lead in the final minutes. In addition, WSU seemed to play very little defense, allowing a bad Evansville team that averages 68 ppg to score 83 points, more than 20 points above WSU's defensive average, and way more than any WSU opponent they have beaten all year has scored against them. It sure appeared to me they were trying to run up the score, again hoping it might help in their potential bid to get an at-large bid in March if they don't win the MVC Tournament.

Ken Pom's rankings, as well as some others consider margin of victory.
Here is an article that claims- "that the RPI misguidedly fails to account for margin of victory, which is arguably the best statistic—by far!—for determining the country's best teams.arguably the best statistic—by far!—for determining the country's best teams", and they use last year's Wichita State team as an example.

What in the hell is he supposed to do? If you look, the bench gets plenty of minutes. Hell tonight both walk-ons got in with 7 mins left for their senior game. It's not his fault one of those walk-ons hit 3 straight 3 pointers to open the score even more lol.

Sorry, just always hear how Marshall runs up the score. I get how it would look that way. But the bench is just that **** good most games lol.

Not being critical of you personally. Just see that a lot and had to chime in. But I get it.

The running up the score conversation should never be mentioned in the context of D1 basketball. This isn't little league.

On top of that, he put in our senior walk ons with like 8 to go. We spent the last like 5 minutes trying to get them shots. They just happened to add 11 points and some assists.

Marshall still had not removed all his starters with a 31 point lead and under 5 minutes left in the game. Hey, now that the NCAA has decided to use analytics that consider the margin of victory, I am not blaming him at all. He is just doing what he's got to do.
Just pointing out what is going on. And yes, Dan Muller, whose team is also on the at-large bubble, has done it, too.

This isn't little league.. Don't allow your team to get down by 31. Seriously. Dumbest thing to whine about.

Not disagreeing. But you are still not seeing the point I am making. What we are seeing is a new phenomenon this season with the addition of Ken Pom and other metrics. It would not have happened last year, and in fact, Wichita State had a better team last year and never scored 100 points. They have done it 3 times this season, including twice in the MVC.

I disagree. This WSU team is better than last year, at least offensively. It's not really close.

They were better on offense and defense with baker and Van vleet. It's not really close.

You don't lose two nba players and get better. Unless you replace them with more nba players. Which hasn't happened.

From an efficiency standpoint you are 100% incorrect.

                            Kenpom AdjO 2016 = 110.2 points per 100 possessions.
                            2017 = 119.3

It's not that simple. Last year was all Fred and Ron. This year has way more weapons.

And Shamet is very possibly an NBA player
