I don't know how they got the 'gimmees' - but they are what they are.
Illinois is Sweet16 bound (NOT because they are a top 16 team) because they got handed the easiest teams to beat.

But that's ok - guess I am the one on the crack-pipe. The pollsters KNOW IT ALL.

Washington is not as good as they were last year, but they aren't chopped liver, either. 2 of their 6 losses came to Washington State, which is about as strange as Illinois' home loss to Penn State. If the Illini win, they go to Washington DC to face Connecticut or Kentucky. Both teams are beatable, but UConn by far and away is the team to beat in this tournament--provided they show up to play! After that, Illinois could get a re-match with an improved North Carolina team or even MVC rep Wichita State in the regional final. Not an easy road, for sure."The NCAA is so upset about alleged recruiting violations at Kentucky that they decided to give Cleveland State the Death Penalty"--Jerry Tarkanian

The Big 10 lost another team last night as Indiana lost to Gonzaga. That leaves only Ohio State from the best conference in the country with a chance to make the Sweet 16.
Here is a ridiculously harsh article by a writer for the Indianapolis Star basically saying good riddance to Mike Davis
No wonder Davis wanted out of there. IMO he did a great job with the team he had taking them to where they were. But I guess if you don't make more than 1 Final 4 every few years, they aren't happy. He will have no trouble getting a very good coaching job somewhere they will appreciate him.
