Our offense is not hard for opponents to defend on the perimeter, since we pass so poorly, and set very few high screens. As far as I can see, we do not run any effective offensive sets to try to get an open perimeter shot for our better shooters.
yup....I thought we had 5 in the first half but it was 6.....zero in the 2nd half...my bad...
Credit UNI for their defense on the perimeter.....they knew Kennell was a shooter and they didn't stop him in the first half.....
I've seen quite a number of games where we showed promise. Where we have played and even beaten some pretty good teams for half or most of the game. Our problem is consistency. I feel like this team is getting more criticism than the Geno Ford days which I don't think is justified.
Its the 2nd year.
We had a president who wanted to demote us to D3.
Things were going really bad for quite a number of years.
We switched coaches _yet again_ and completely ruined our recruiting even moreso than it already was for awhile.
Its going to take time. I see so much panicking. We're not good but I also expected us to not be good. Again, we're not even done with year 2. You never know, next year we could finally unlock what is needed to play consistently. Because again, I have seen promising things. The talent is there, the players just need to apply it for the entire game.
They weren't more than a hand full of times that Nate even had the ball in a position where he might have forced up a shot. We didn't set up any plays for him to get a shot. Makes absolutely no sense.
We don't know that for sure though.....maybe a play or plays didn't executed right. I thought Nate looked tired in the last 10 minutes of the game
Like most people that post on this forum I am frustrated with the mistakes this very young team makes. Even though we were inconsistent at times I was impressed how Bradley competed against UNI on their home court.
I was pleased to see the vast improvement in the first half offensive plan and execution, if you compare this game to the last game and other games for that matter. Congratulations to Nate for having a very good first half shooting performance! I thought UNI??™s defense on Nate was very good during the second half. To me, it was like watching Antoine Pittman lock down the other team??™s hot scorer. Gotta give them some credit.
I disagree that we have our worst shooters taking most of the shots. So far this season Darrell and JoJo are our leading scorers. Darrell had multiple open looks that just didn??™t go down. How frustrating to see the ball sitting on the back of the rim??¦ I too would like to see Nate and Jayden take more shots, a definite opportunity for improvement.
UNI was very lucky to get the ball when we couldn??™t control the rebound on the last FT. It is not like our guys blew that rebound because of lack of effort. Did you see them sprawled out on the floor after that play, they gave their all.
IMO, certain players want to be the hero. Can't let it be Nate or Hodgson.
You are probably right.....in the same token many fans say we have missed the "go to" guy to take and make the shot....Brown and JoJo are trying to be those guys...they can create their own shot....Nate and Jayden really aren't that type of player

Great post on the shape we're in. Agree completely.
We have had at least three games that we lost this year because we didn't make free throws. Those wins would have made the season look a lot better.
I really thought we could avoid Thursday night but since that won't happen I am still hoping that we can have a good finish to the season.
Any team making it past Thursday faces either ISU or Wichita on Friday....
and I can't tell you how much I would love to have another crack at ISU...
They are very good, and my cynical/suspicious nature convinces me that "the powers that be" would not allow a Thursday team to knock off the only remote chance a team from the MVC might have of an at-large bid...
but regardless, I think on a good nite if we hit the 3's and they don't, we can surprise everyone and upset one of the contenders...
Last night we played the hottest team in the MVC..
no other team has won more than 9 of their last 10 - or had no double-digit losses...
if we can do it against them, we can find the keys and get it done against anyone..
What better story for the Valley than to have a team full of freshmen make it to the Championship round - we'd maybe make the cover of Sports Illustrated!

Yes, Jacobson has them playing well. But it is a stretch to call UNI "the hottest team in the MVC".
Wichita has won 9 games in a row by an average of 23 points. And they have won 15 of their last 16 games, and they own a 14 point win at UNI.
ISU has also won 15 of their last 16 games, and one of them was over UNI.
And 4 of UNI's 6 losses in the MVC were by double digits, including their loss to Bradley.
I think most would agree that both WSU and ISU are better teams than UNI.

They sure weren't creating very good the 2nd half. Can't let the other 2 be the hero though. They kept us in the game the first half, but can't let them get the credit. Just my opinion.
How frustrating to see the ball sitting on the back of the rim??¦ .
I have never seen that happen before in a basketball game at any level. I would not predict that was even physically possible. Sometimes when things aren't going well, bizzare things like that present themselves. Have any of you ever seen that before?
It's amazing slo-mo video of the London Perrantes shot that could have won the game for Virginia and instead comes to rest on the back of the rim against Vir...

You're right Lefty in that no one knows for sure but to me there were no obvious attempts to run anything to get Nate a shot at a 3. You do whatever you have to do to get this guy some shots. He didn't take one shot in the 2nd half. Just can't happen.

IMO, the other players didn't want him taking the shots that could win the game. He's not the guy they want to be the hero.
