  • Tony Bennett !!!!!

Ex-BU Brave Tony Bennett playing for the Chicago Rockstars of the ABA had
38 points last night against the Peoria Kings.
The Kings won 114-111 with Bobby Anderson netting 30, Pekin's Todd Peterson getting 21, and Sergio McClain playing and scoring three.

I noticed that the article in the PJStar said that Tony wanted to play for the Kings. He called Sergio a few times over the summer and never received a call back.

The Kings won this game in an unbelievable turn of events.

The Kings were down as many as 28 pts I believe and came back to win this game with some great pressure defense and some huge 3's down the stretch. I think they were down by 10 or 12 with about a minute left in the game.

Sergio plays in spurts. You can tell he hasnt played basketball in a while. The game is almost too fast paced for him and kind of slows the team down in my opinion. I wonder how much longer it will be before he actually can play with this guys. This sounds hard to believe because this guy who played at such of a high level at U of I should be dominating this league. Hopefully he can get to were he once was

Sergio was never a good shooter in college; he did the things like screening, rebounding and playing defense which will not take you to the next level; pro players need to be scorers, I guess Tony showed him why he should have at least given him a chance but at the start of the season he only wanted Manual and Central players for the most part; too bad because Tony is a winner.

Too bad he never gave Tony a chance. If there were more recognizable Bradley players on the Kings, I am sure their attendance would be a lot better. I would pay to see their games if Tony was playing for them!

I remember an interview with TB saying Peoria is like his 2nd home and he would like to settle down here and raise a family here .........I believe Brandon Heemskirk also said he would like to settle down in Peoria and raise a family working for Big Yellow........to me this is Great! By the way.....what is up with Phillip Gilbert.....is he hurt or just not-happy playing for the Kings........0-1 last night with no other stats?

gilbert was getting a lot of playing time for the kings then he left for a week without really telling anyone anything.... he appearently had a death in the family and came back. He then played a decent amount of minutes and played well. However, now that Sergio is playing, he is taking some of Gilberts minutes and Sergio starts himself even though he doesnt really contribute anything.

I guess I understand that. I just think he should be doing a lot better than he is doing. Most of the players in this league are from DII schools or did not really contribute a whole lot in there DI school.

Sergio is coming from starting on an elite DI school so I figured he could do more

I have a little more info to go with this thought, but you'll have to PM me.
But I will be out of town a couple days visiting some college campuses with a son, so I might not get back for a while.

I was at this game, it was actually pretty amazing.

It was tied at 30 after the first quarter, then Chicago outscored Peoria 27-3 in the second quarter for a 57-30 halftime lead. Bennett had 13 at the half, seemed like in the second half his team sort of just watched him as he went for 25.

Bennett was unstoppable though. He was about the only person on the court playing defense for a good chunk of the game and he could create his own shot way better than anyone else. I wish he was on the Peoria team, I hate to say it Serg, but I think more people would show up for former Braves than former Central and Manual high schoolers. I wanted to see a lot more of Gilbert.

Serg is out of shape bigtime. Only goes for about 4 or 5 minutes at a time, and of those, seemed like only 2-3 before he was dead. I hope he improves, because he is one of my alltime favorite players (Remember I went to U of I).

Anyhow, I was very pleasantly surprised with the Kings game, I know they've been ripped on on this board before, but it was a good game and a great comeback.

This sentiment was expressed many times by many people during the year leading up to the play of the Kings, and yet they didn't bother to get anyone except Michael Stewart.
Only when they lost their first eight games did they go out and sign Phillip Gilbert, and a couple other guys who are helping them win.
Since then thay have won 9 of their last 13, and yet they still don't play Gilbert as much as they need to. They do indeed seem to want to showcase just the ex-Manual guys.
Oh well, we know where the coach went to HS so I guess that's the reason, but as I said before, I have a little more info I'll share if you want to PM me.
