  • NCAA Tournament projections

It's the time of the year when NCAA Tournament brackets start to zero in on the 68 teams that will most likely be in the NCAA Tournament.
Perhaps the 2 most well known bracketologists are ESPN's Joe Lunardi and CBSSports' Jerry Palm.
    Here are their latest projections-

    ESPN's Joe Lunardi's Jan. 30 bracket projection-

Visit ESPN for live scores, highlights and sports news. Stream exclusive games on ESPN+ and play fantasy sports.

Lunardi has Ilinois State as a #11 seed, and he has Wichita State as the first team out of the 68-team bracket.
He has 8 Big Ten teams, including Michigan (RPI 68 ), Indiana (RPI 80), and Minnesota (3-6 and tied for 11th place in Big Ten) which all have losing Big Ten records. Illinois is not included, and not listed among the first 8 teams out.

CBSSports' Jerry Palm's Jan. 30 bracket projection-
CBS Sports is helping you get ready for March Madness with the latest news, picks, and predictions for the 2025 NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket.

Palm has Illinois State as a #12 seed, and Wichita State is out, and not among the first 4 out.
He also has the same 8 Big Ten teams in the 68-team bracket as Lunardi, but surprisingly, he lists Illinois as the 3rd team out.

Indiana has an RPI of 80, but they are a 9 seed.

Tournament Selection Fix Will Be In Again...

Don't even try to make sense of NCAA Div 1 Tourney seedings...

There are rules for the big conferences, and, different rules for everyone else.

While RPI metrics still hold the most weight, all of the analytical rankings have WSU in the 20 to 30 range. WSU seems to have the latest discrepancy between those among the bubble teams. Will be interesting to see if they put any weight behind those given they have announced that they are looking into them for future years.
