  • Dave Snell's Game Broadcast

Recently I made contact with Dave Snell regarding any possibility to have a radio signal inside the arena for fans who want to hear him while in attendance at home games. Right now you pick up or stream the radio, but not without huge 10-20 second delays compared to the action in the arena.

    Here is his response:

"Thank you so much for your kind words!

As of now there isn't a way. I have mentioned it many times as part of the visually impaired act to put a mini transmitter above the scoreboard, however the Civic Center has not acted on it. Perhaps you could ask them and you would have better luck than I have. I'm sure it's a financial issue.

Enjoy the games and be patient, Brian is on the right track to get us back to where rightfully belong!
    Much thanks!
    Dave"

I looked without success for the proper information to make contact at the PCC. I have 2 questions for all of you on BradleyFans:

    1. Do any of you agree this would be a neat feature to be able to listen to Dave during the game in person... perhaps a discreet ear bud on one side?
Or am I the only Bradley dork that would benefit from this?

    2. Would any of you be willing to join me in making this request if we can find the right person to contact?

I have never given it a thought - but I will support you as a way of making the experience better for those who do want the broadcast..

I am curious why the broadcast delay is so long...
once while watching a televised Bradley game while also had the radio on WMBD - I timed the delay at 1 min 45 seconds!
Why does it have to be so long? I always thought the main reason was for screening - so that if an expletive or whatever slipped out, the studio guy could catch it and bleep it out...but surely he wouldn't need a full minute..

I don't know why, but the delay has grown more and more over the years. I chalked it up to all the electronics, but who knows. Maybe Dave or Chad have a propensity for minute-long profane tirades.

I think it's a good idea, though not one I would be likely to use. The benefit to visually or hearing impaired fans would be the best avenue to take to ask for it.

The Civic Center General Manager is Anne Clayton (AClayton@PeoriaCivicCenter.com). I'd suggest starting with an email to her and ask what it might take to get this done.

Also, I can't believe the cost would be that much. It would simply take a small transmitter similar to the low-strength FM broadcasts like are used in tourist attractions, zoos, etc that allow people to wear a headphone to take a self-guided tour.

The delay must come from some step at WMBD that involves audio-streaming or a buffering delay for the signal that is broadcast over the radio.
I am sure that delay could be bypassed for the signal in the arena.

          Good Idea

I can support the effort to be able to listen to Dave Snell at Carver. I am not able to travel that far a lot to see a game, but it would be great to have that. It would be good for people with hearing problems too.

The delay between the internet radio and espn3 is a real pain too. I hope that that can be eliminated. I watch espn3 for every game and I have Snell on internet. You cant play with pausing the video stream except on occasion so it would be great if those matched up!

          Go Braves!
