I like Taylor Bruninga, but I don't think he is quite another Alec Peters. I think he is a couple years away from being able to play at the level of the MVC, and that is why so few coaches are offering him. Personally, I'd rather see Bradley land someone who will battle for minutes and contribute next year.

With all the problems of AAU ball, isn't one of the good features of it so a kid like Taylor Bruninga can play against similar talent? I assume it would be much easier to evaluate him last summer than this winter against teams with a 6'1" center.

You can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Alec had as many offers as Taylor has now. It is a fact he has three visits lined up and correct me if I'm wrong again but all three finished ahead of us. Oh don't bother checking that one all three did. I think we are in a position we could bring him in and redshirt him next year.

That is my point. I don't think Taylor is ready to play next year, and I think our coaches are looking for someone who is. IMO, his body isn't as mature as Peters' was coming out of HS. He needs a redshirt year.
Alec Peters stepped right in, started 34 of 34 games, played 30 minutes per game as a freshman for Valpo and averaged 12.7 ppg and 4.8 rpg, and shot 38% from three against D1 competition. Does anyone think Bruninga will do that?

I can't vouch for how accurate these sources are, but Verbalcommits.com listed 17 offers for Alec Peters-

          Rivals also listed 17 offers-
Alec Peters - 2013 3 Star Power forward for Washington (Washington, IL) on Rivals.com

"we already have similar players in van Bree, Stipanovich, Kennell and Suggs"

t, I think you need to take Suggs out of consideration. As they say only history will be an accurate judge of the decision. I believe DC is correct in that Wardle will look for someone who can help next year. Of course, an alternative could be to carry the scholarship over if an adequate recruit can not be found. We only have two scholarships available next year.

Taylor Bruninga gets another offer - from SIUE...
I'm sure SIUE wouldn't waste their time if they didn't think they had some chance - so I also think this may be an offer that assures him he will play right away and maybe even be a key part of their plans and not be asked to redshirt

OK - you told us to stay tuned two months ago and yet not a whole lot new happening...the only offers he's gotten in the past month or so appear to be schools that he's not as seriously considering and may not be even considering a visit to.

Let me catch up with what's happened...

                1) there's a column in today's PJS about Taylor Bruninga honored with small school Area Player of the Year.
I doubt the selection was even close, as TB is head & shoulders above any other candidate I can think of.

                2) the article says he has 7 offers - but it doesn't name them
HOWEVER we have documented in this thread that his own AAU coach has confirmed EIGHT offers, so why does the column today differ?
The recruiting sites also list eight DI offers. Has one of the offers been taken off the table or filled by another commit?

Those eight offers listed throughout this thread are:
UNI, Loyola, ISU, EIU, Bucknell, William & Mary, IPFW and SIUE
But despite the literal frenzy of schools making offers & getting commitments throughout DI, there's been no new offers in two weeks, and only one new offer in about a month.

                3) the article also reports
... he is planning 3 visits...
                Northern Iowa, Loyola, and ISU
(he could also take two other official visits)
BUT again - this is hardly breaking news.....seems we knew that several weeks ago

                4) so it would seem he's currently considering the three MVC offers....and where Loyola didn't have an open scholarship a few weeks ago, now they have one as a result of Kirby transferring.

So, where's he gonna land? I don't know but I am curious....
All three of UNI, Loyola, & ISU have an open scholarship but they have other offers out so the offers to TB could evaporate if he waits too long.
I think his best chance to play right away might be Loyola, as UNI has redshirted almost all of their recent incoming freshmen, and ISU kind of already has a some similar players who already spent a redshirt year and would be expected to ahead of Taylor in the rotation.

Disturbed & midstate, you guys know him best, what school is in the lead??
Or will some new offer emerge as we near the signing period?

Taylor is going through the process the way it should be handled. Has visits set up which UNI is up 1st and Next Weekend.

Not every school has a need for every position each year. BU happens to already have a few players like Taylor they are comfortable with. It happens-that's recruitment at its finest.

                  Just Fun Facts:
Alec Peters had 25+ offers at the peak of his recruitment... Turned away Missouri & Tennessee offers in fall of his Senior Season because he was happy already with options up to that point and sick of the recruiting process.

Alec played 3 years of AAU basketball and people got to see him and recruit him for 3 years. Taylor played 1 year of AAU basketball and people just found out about him in APRIL of 2016. Alec's overall BBALL IQ, Strength, Offensive Ability is higher than Taylor's at the same age. Taylor is Taller, Longer, And More Athletic that Alec w/similar offensive game.

Alec concentrated on Bball his entire HS career, Taylor did 1 year as he has been more of a baseball guy up until this point. Creepy on how much they remind me of each other on and off the court.

Mark my words couple years from now people will be saying the same thing as they said about Alec, how did we not offer this kid.

People think Im Crazy but no joke:

If I had Peters, Taphorn, Bruninga all as Sr. in High School and said who will have the best college career, not knowing what Peters or Taphorn turned out to be. I would pick Bruninga 10 out of 10 times because of his athletic ability, skill, competitiveness, and potential.

Alec is different he has an unmatched work ethic and a mindset to be the best which is what has made him to the player he is... That speaks for itself and very few have that.

Im not saying Taylor will be as good as Alec... But there are a lot of things pointing him towards that direction....

                  MY 2 Cents..

Local basketball fans should not underestimate Brunigas love for baseball. It is very possible that Taylor has expressed this to schools recruiting him for basketball. Taylor may want to hear from college baseball coaches this Spring and Summer for more options. A 6'8" pitcher with his athleticism and drive who already threw above 80 mph as a high school Junior is highly attractive. He may also want to try to play both sports in college. That obviously would eliminate or limit the bigger D1 basketball schools that are following Taylor. A lower level D1 basketball school could have more flexibility or understanding if they knew they could land a player with his talent and potential.

                    • I'd love to see him come to Bradley as two sport athlete - and EXCEL in both baseball & basketball...
that's probably something that most Bradley fans have never seen ....

                        • interesting, as schools will start signing kids and filling their scholarships next week...
and all three, Loyola, UNI and ISU have only one available and likely other kids offered...
or could this mean one or more of the offers are pay-own-way first year then scholarship (like Ron Baker) - thus it wouldn't matter

TB completed his visit to Northern Iowa - and no word...
ISU just filled their last scholarship - so will TB keep his visit? Maybe so - since he's considering a walk on offer at UNI

My understanding is that both UNI and ISU would have him walk on and redshirt the first year. I would think that would provide an advantage to the schools offering first-year scholarships.
