Both of our incoming guys, Elijah Childs & Ryan Stipanovich - have hit the 1000-point career marks in high school
That may not sound impressive, but for Elijah's Lee's Summit West - he's only the 4th kid who has done so and Ryan is just the 3rd at his school...
(HS games are shorter, lower scoring, and most high schoolers don't play as many career varsity games - so 1000 pts may even be a lot more impressive in HS than in college)

wow, what a quick run - the score went from 24-20 all the way to 37-20 in 2 minutes..

edit- now Lee's Summit West has scored 23 straight points and it's 47-20 at half...
I doubt the LSW starters play too much in the 2nd half

a monster dunk early in 2nd half by Childs to go up 54-22

LSW takes all their starters out only about 2 minutes into the 3rd qtr
            ..edit 60-23

                final 80-39

Missouri's "mercy rule" that starts the running clock didn't kick in until they got a 40 point lead...but the running clock and using only their 3rd stringers kept the scoring down in the 4th quarter

Ryan Stipanovich did not play as DeSmet (9-14) got beaten by Chaminade. No report on reason.
                        Ryan's stats to date: 16.3 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 39.7% on 3-pointers, 3.4 assists per game, 1 block, 1 steal

In Lee's Summit West's (20-2) game, Elijah Childs again led all scorers with 19 points
Elijah's stats - (and some games were never reported - so this is based on his numbers from 20 of his 22 games)
                        15 ppg, 12 rpg

I'll raise the question again...Are these guys really good enough to be competitive in the MVC and significantly help BU or are they simply good high school players but more of the same fodder for our revolving door recruiting?
We need 3 star or better players, a couple of big & strong JC scorers, and a player who can be an on-court leader....something we do not presently have.

Yes these guys are good enough.
No we don't need 3 star recruits(until we get reestablished as a competitive team that probably is not going to happen anyway).
Evidently you haven't noticed we do have a player who is becoming our on court leader (Darrell Brown).

Missouri has 79 Class 5A schools, so they split into 16 Districts...
5 in each district except Dist 8 has only 4 teams with no byes.
Even if it were to happen that Lee's Summit West advanced and so did DeSmet - they would not meet until the State Championship game because of where they are in the brackets.

Lee's Summit West is ranked #2 in the state by MaxPreps and #3 by MBCA Coaches.
DeSmet is unranked statewide but #10 in St. Louis Metro area - their schedule has been extremely tough

Bradley Fan 49....These two recruits are not highly ranked in Missouri and a 15 ppg ave. in high school would be suspect in the MVC. Regarding 3 star recruits, you are dead wrong--We need these kind of players very badly. Other Mid-Majors recruit them and we should also. To do what you suggest would condemn us to Divn II or III.
I also disagree 100% with your opinion regarding a team leader. D. Brown is a fine player and a valuable asset to BU Basketball. However, I see no evidence of leadership in him. While he is a scorer, he is turnover prone and is only an average passer. These are not attribute for a good point guard. IMO he is better suited to be a 2 guard. Remember Hersey awkins who was a super great player. He was a super scorer but was not in any way a team leader on-court. A. Manual. Maniscalco, Jim Les, D. Ruffin were clearly great team leaders. D. Brown is a different player than these guys. Also, why have our coaches been recruiting and offering point guards? Are they looking for a true point guard that is a leader?
