  • Darrell Brown, Jr.'s 34 points in Hofstra game

Kudos to Darrell Brown, Jr. for his 34 point performance -
It is the highest scoring individual game so far this year for Bradley - and also...

-highest scoring game for a freshman in Bradley's 114 year history
-highest individual scoring game for Bradley since James Gillingham scored 34 vs. Drake on Jan. 15, 2003
-highest scoring game for any freshman in the MVC since March 21, 2011 (Doug McDermott)
-highest scoring game in the MVC by anyone - gotta think DB is lead candidate to get the Newcomer of the Week!
-34 points is tied for the 12th highest scoring game in all of NCAA Division I this season (10th highest in games against DI opponents)
(other notables- future opponent Ole Miss' DeAndre Burnett had DI's highest scoring game at 41 pts on 11/18, Illini's Malcolm Hill had 40 on 11/13, former BU recruit Charlie Moore had 38 for Cal on 11/16, Valpo's Alec Peters had 36 on 11/12, ex-ISU Redbird Zach Lofton had 35 for Texas Southern on 11/12)
-Only Charlie Moore of Cal (38 pts), and Markelle Fultz of Washington (35 pts) have scored more this season as freshman in NCAA D-I
-Darrell Brown, Jr. vaults into the #6 spot in scoring average in the MVC at 16.8 ppg average
-Brown also ranks 2nd in the MVC in 3-pt shooting pct. at 56.3% among those who have attempted 3 or more per game
-interesting thing - of the 25 highest scoring individual games so far this season - all but one was accomplished by a GUARD - the only forward in the TOP 25 is Alec Peters with the 7th highest scoring total of 36 pts vs. Trinity Christian on Nov. 12

    Kudos indeed to Darrell Brown!!!

This certainly is a great sign for the future of Bradley basketball!

This is in no way meant to take away from Darrell great performance, but I would point out that Frosh have not been eligible to play varsity basketball throughout all of Bradley long history.

Freshmen were not eligible to play on the Varsity during the BU "glory years" between 1952-1972...a lot of great Bradley Freshmen never played in a varsity game in those years

The most points ever scored by a BU player 'in his first year of eligibility' was sophomore Chet Walker's 44 pts vs Abilene Christian in 1959

I think that is very relevant to point out...
many great freshman could not play varsity during that span
