Mapping NCAA college basketball players' hometowns
Interesting article. The author mapped every Division I college basketball player's hometown, and determined how far they travel to attend their school. There were 5,176 players in all at the 351 D1 schools.
Note that Bradley ranks 7th in D1 in the "average distance from hometown to school". Bradley players' average distance is 2,458 miles from campus, a result of the multiple foreign players on the roster. Hawaii, due to its distant isolation from recruits, is #1 with an average of 4,031 miles.
He also breaks down which states produce the most D1 talent. Texas is #1 with 408 D1 players, California is #2 with 384, and Illinois is #3 with 272.
As far as cities that produce the most players, Chicago is #2 with 88 players, behind New York City, which has 111 (his graph breaks NYC into it's 5 boroughs)
