  • SIU Recruit Gets Schooled

Carlton Fay, who will be going to SIU next year came with his Putnam County Panthers to play at Peoria Christian School and his team was never even in the game.
Peoria Christian jumped out to an early 19 point lead before using the reserves heavily in the first half and ending the first half with a 39-27 lead.

The 2nd half was the same, as Peoria Christian beat Putnam Co. soundly and stretched the lead back to 19 much of the way, before some garbage buckets made the final score 87-77.
PCS must have had 20 steals as they were all over every lazy pass the Panthers made.
Fay was frustrated and hollered at his own teammates for not getting him the ball.
The Putnam Co. fans were screaming for their team to get the ball more to Fay.
Fay is a fine ball player but his team just didn't seem to come with him tonight.

By the way, one fan had a sign that said:

    " 1/10/07
    BU 48
    SIU 46
C-Fay, There's still time to change your mind"

Fay saw the sign during warmups and laughed.

PS, nice to see a couple posters there, including MrCoachdude who seemed to be having a great time!

As he scored 36 points, I don't think you could say he was schooled!!
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I went over to the game last night to see Fay.
Boy do they have bad weather over there.
If I can add just one thing, I'd point out how the Putnam Co coach threw his whole team out the window to show off his star.
The very first offensive play ran screens and in and out pass just to get Fay a long three pointer from the corner- he missed.
Then much of the first half they had Fay on the wing or actually bringing up the ball against the press.
I just about lost it when they called time out after having trouble inbounding the ball, and started running plays to inbound to Fay on a breakout, long hail Mary pass.
It was apparent the coach just wants to showcase his stud, and didn't care as much about winning as the prime goal.
Some time in the 2nd half he completely revamped his plans whe he found himself down by about 20, and he plunked Fay right in the lane and actually passed the ball to him a few times.
The kid was unstoppable, but it was way too late.
Give PCS credit, as they took advantage of everything the Putnam Co coach handed them.
I guess I couldn't have been more shocked if Shaq tried to play point guard and dribble the ball upcourt against a press.
Sign in front of the Peoria Journal Star

      also add "Price Slashed"

Fay is a stud as I said, and is definitely D-I but he was schooled on how a team plays basketball.
PCS last night was a far better team, and Fay was pretty powerless alone to stop it.

Can we now say "SIU recruit in our backyard that got away, schools Peoria Christian"?? Just wondering as the paper and box score made it look like a blowout.

Are you suggesting that you think Fay is better than the kids Bradley signed? Is he going to start and contribute right away for SIU?

Why shouldn't he dominate against teams that do not have anyone taller than 6 foot? I would be very worried about him if he didn't.

Actually, I am a BU alumn that graduated from Putnam Co, still live there, and go to many of the home games. I rarely post on here because I don't have the expertise that most of you do, but I do "lurk" to stay current on what is going on. This original post agitated me as I found it somewhat inflammatory and slightly misleading. So I thought I would get a barb in. I could care less about where Mr. Fay goes, I am actually tiring of reading about him in the paper. I do keep telling a young Anthony Ahlers(6-6 So.) that Bradley is a great school both academically and athletically, just in case he becomes good enough that he is someone we might offer.
