  • Bradley Red-White scrimmage is FREE to the public - Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2pm

The Bradley Braves basketball teams are set to make their first appearance of the 2016-17 season on the court on Oct. 23 with the Red-White Scrimmage. Admission to the event at Renaissance Coliseum is free for fans to attend.

    let's have a big crowd!

    PLUS- SOMETHING DIFFERENT this year!

The event starts at 2pm, and the MEN's team goes first - right off the bat with introductions and the intrasquad scrimmage!

"The scrimmage is set to begin at 2 p.m. with the men's team being introduced.
The squad will then scrimmage in front of fans before participating in a dunk contest.
Both the men's and women's teams will also participate in a 3-point contest before
the event wraps up with the women's team scrimmaging."

Loyola has their intrasquad scrimmage next Thursday

Missouri State had their scrimmage and observers noted that highly touted guard Ronnie Rousseau appeared - by one account - "struggled all game " defensively and "can't defend a ball screen"..
Austin Ruder, Greg Williams, and Tyler McCullough also did not play and that Jarrid Rhodes has a knee injury

Saw some of the other MVC teams have now had their scrimmages...
Wichita had theirs this past week- but I am puzzled at the lack of much on their boards..
One of their boards has just a 3-page thread about the scrimmage with little mention of how the players looked -
The other board has a 9-page thread but most is about the dunking contest & women's game - very little about the men -
..and oddly more than one person thought their walk-on John Robert Simon was the point guard they had and outplayed their stud Shamet.
I guess that's kind of a good thing for the rest of the Valley if there just wasn't much talk among their fans about the scrimmage and that their walk-ons outplayed their best players.
Final score was 35-30 with 27 minutes of scrimmage - and reportedly lots of fouls called... Shaq Morris out with knee injury.

Drake also had a scrimmage Saturday - here's a report
I am intrigued about the comment by one poster about something their AD said...
"Since I heard the (AD's) .. rant about how us unsupportive fans should
just leave if we don't support the Drake way I don't feel welcome or
comfortable at these events. I also don't feel comfortable at the games
despite the fact that I am paying an premium price for tickets for a team I
have supported my whole life. Something is wrong here."

If anyone knows what this is all about, lmk

Evansville has their "Hoopfest" Thursday but also has a closed scrimmage coming up against Saint Louis
Loyola also had their Rambler Madness this past weekend but they get way less press coverage than anyone! - Just a few tweets - LINK
Crowd looked pretty small - LINK LINK

        Boy does that sound familiar...

Hmm .. I got a different sense from the main WSU board?

First .. JR Simon received Peyton Allen's scholarship .. so good for him, he's no longer a Walk-On. Kid has worked hard over the last 3 years for WSU, he deserves it.

Shaq wasn't out with an injury, but was sore from practice earlier in the day, so no need for him to put extra stress on the knees for the scrimmage. There weren't that many fouls called, but for the most part they were on Hamilton lol. Kid is athletic like crazy (won the dunk contest with a windmill dunk over 3 managers), but doesn't know how to slow down. He's injured some of our players. I'm not sure he will play this year still.

As far as the scrimmage, It was a lot of strange line-ups. Shamet wont play point much. Point will be Smith, Frankamp, Reaves and a little of Shamet. John Robert is very serviceable at point and can play spot minutes. He's one of the few seniors on this team, so he has experience too. That said, he's still way behind the other 3.

McDuffie is POY potential .. he was able to do whatever he wanted and only missed a single shot I believe.

Shamet was good, but nothing jumped out. He's recovering from a broken nose and is wearing a mask at this point. not sure how that is affecting him. He's still one of our best players.

Reaves was really good for a Freshman. Really good post passer as he's 6'5. Still needs to bulk up, but was able to get into the lane well.

Keyser is quick and athletic but made some freshmen plays and got out of control. He's also been sidelined most if not all of the summer with injuries. He will get it over time.

Frankamp is a lights out shooter (at least in these situations). He had 24/30 points possible in the 3 point final. Let's see if he can show up in games this year. Expectations for him are strictly to take care of the ball and make shots when needed.

Kelly looked better than last year. Strong player, and was able to finish at the rim which is something he's struggled with. He took it to hole strong and made some tough shots, which was the biggest gap in his game.

Nurger looks very very promising. Looks like he's bulked up a bunch. He had some strong good post moves, which is what we need from our 6'10 guy.

Willis showed some range. Had a good jumper and was solid on the boards. Hes a more athletic Darius Carter.

Brown looks like he's improved his 3 pt shot. He also looks way more confident in driving to the hole. He needs to step up this year.

Smith was quiet .. but ended up with 6 assists. He's lightning quick, but hasn't taken advantage of it yet.

The general consensus is that this team is the most athletic/talented team that Marshall has ever had. The big question is who will step up to lead. I saw a lot from McDuffie as far as leadership. His attitude has changed this year.

Thanks - but I stand by everything I said...
As far as Shaq -- ..they held him out because his knees hurt - he had pain in his knees - and you say that's different from holding him out due to injury?

And, the post was about the scrimmage- Simon was NOT on scholarship at the time of the scrimmage- he was awarded the scholarship AFTER the scrimmage so he WAS A WALK-ON just as I said
