Bradley's 2016-17 basketball actually starts in 2 days, Friday, Sept. 30, when full team practices with the coaches can officially begin.

But here are the important events coming in the month of October-

Oct 4 (Tuesday) 7:30 AM APPRECIATION BREAKFAST for Season Ticket Holders
At: Renaissance Coliseum

Oct 4 (Tuesday) 3:30 PM APPRECIATION SOCIAL for Season Ticket Holders

Oct 5 (Wednesday) 11:30 AM APPRECIATION LUNCH for Season Ticket Holders
At: Renaissance Coliseum

Oct 13 (Thursday) 6:00 PM BRADLEY BASKETBALL SPAGHETTI SUPPER
At: Itoo Hall

Oct 23 (Sunday) 2:00 PM RED-WHITE SCRIMMAGE
At: Renaissance Coliseum

NOTE:
Fans can buy Spaghetti Supper tickets in advance or at the door.
To buy advance tickets- call (309-677-2625) or stop by the ticket office at the Renaissance Coliseum.

This is actually quite early for the ISC Smoker as it has usually been held in the first week or 2nd week of October in past years...

tonight is the Smoker...
in the past couple years it has usually been held the first week of October and on a Thursday...
so this year things must have had to have been altered a bit for Wardle's & Groce's schedule

2015- it was Thursday Oct. 8 at the Gateway Bldg
2014- it was Thursday Oct. 9 at the Gateway Bldg
2013 - it was Wednesday Oct. 9 at the Gateway Bldg
2012 - it was Wednesday Oct. 10 at the Gateway Bldg
2011 - it was Thursday Oct. 13 at the Cornerstone Bldg
prior to 2011 it had always been held at the Lariat Club
2010 - it was Wednesday Oct. 13
2009 - it was Wednesday Oct. 21
2008 - it was Thursday Oct. 16
2007 - it was Thursday Oct. 11 (this was the year of the infamous Bruce Weber quote about Eric Gordon - "he can kiss my a**")
2006 - it was Thursday Oct. 12 ..

Tomorrow, Oct. 4 is the Fan Appreciation Breakfast at 7:30 AM, and the Social at 3:30 PM. Season ticket holders need tickets to attend.
There is also a Fan Appreciation Lunch Wednesday at 11:30 AM.

These events are for season ticket holders. I don't know if there are any tickets available, but if you are interested, check with the ticket office.

btw- ISU's Hoopfest is tomorrow nite but one big note...
projected starter MiKyle McIntosh has injured his knee and will not participate in the preseason Hoopfest
Also - one other projected starter Tony Wills had surgery for a groin injury/sports hernia and is said to be out 6-8 weeks.
He did not have surgery locally but instead went to Philadelphia for the surgery.

one other thing talked about a bunch last night at the Itoo supper was how great our athletes' ACADEMIC performance has been in the past year.

the Women's Basketball team had a 3.66 GPA, and that was the 11th best in ALL OF DIVISION I !!!!

The men's team wasn't far behind, and of the 14 rostered players last year THIRTEEN of them made the Honor Roll during the 2015-16 school/academic year!!
They were also honored by being among the TOP 27 teams in DI with NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.

Bradley's home attendance was also UP in Dr. Reynolds & Coach Brian Wardle's first year - and the increase was the 3rd biggest increase in the Valley (behind Evansville & SIU) and it moves Bradley to 2nd best overall and average attendance in the MVC.

I am puzzled a bit about why the Missouri Valley hasn't hardly done a single thing to publicize the upcoming MVC Basketball Media Day
(they call it Tip Off Day) and the release of the preseason poll & All Conference teams - - just a few obscure tweets....
On top of that - of the 40 or so voters in the preseason polling ONLY ONE has released his ballot (see above) and I wonder if it's because there really is no consensus on who the top team is this year so some might be a bit embarrassed by their picks. Dave Reynolds, Jim Benson (ISU), SIU's Todd Hefferman & others used to always release their ballots - but not this year.

There's not only been virtually nothing but it's hard to even find a mention of it anywhere on the MVC website.


SO - just for the sake of doing our part to publicize this...it's less than a week away..

Missouri Valley Basketball Tip Off Day is next Tuesday, October 25-
there will be coverage in ESPN3 starting at 9am next Tuesday..

Season about to start and anyone notice all the talk & media coverage...
well, that's because it doesn't exist except at the Itoo or message board.
In prior years the coverage was intense thru October and the preseason...
but that was a different era and don't expect much of that now...

I hear there will be a Hoops insert section in an upcoming PJ Star.. If anyone knows when, let us know, since many here, including me, don't subscribe to the PS Star any more. It was usually on a Thursday in the first week of November. They are probably saving any articles to put in that.

The Hoops insert will be in the Journal Star on November 10th, which is a Thursday.
