Evansville lost the Valley's top scorer (D.J. Balentine) and the nation's top rebounder (Egidijus Mockevicius) from last year's team, as well as other key returnees like two time 6th man of the year Mizlav Brzoja and starter and top 5 scorer Adam Wing. Their top returnees that Marty Simmons had to build around were seniors-to-be Blake Simmons and Jaylon Brown.
But today UE announced that Blake Simmons tore his ACL and will be lost for the season. Tough luck for Blake and Marty. Simmons was their top returning 3-point shooter (at 32.2%). For a team that has historically depended on perimeter shooting and good post play, Evanville will have no reliable proven perimeter shooters and a void inside this coming season.
This should open a lot of playing time for Ohio U. transfer Ryan Taylor or some of their new freshmen players.
