  • SIU picks up a late transfer

I know there's a thread over on the recruiting board but ...
former Bradley recruit- Marcus Bartley - has left Saint Louis and will transfer to SIU

he will have to sit out a year and will have two years left.

BUT, the main question is ...
surely he will get a scholarship, right?
... but on paper it would appear all 13 SIU scholarships are spoken for.
4 seniors: Smithpeters, Vincent, Rodriguez, O'Brien
    2 juniors: Wiley, Bol
4 sophomores: Fletcher, Weiher (both redshirt sophomores), Lloyd, Stradnieks
    3 freshmen: Roscoe, Gooch, Cook

HOWEVER, I have long suspected Roscoe won't show...

...and indeed he's been booted from the squad and his name's been dropped from their current roster

    addendum...
in two seasons at SLU, Bartley played 64 games, hiy 90-226 for 39.8% FG shooting, hit 41.5% on 3-pointers, averging 4.4 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 1.9 apg

They had one open scholarship that belonged to Bola Olaniyan until he left unexpectedly late in the summer.

Bola was at least the 9th significant player to leave Barry's Salukis in the past 2 years - plus there were 3 or 4 others who were unproductive or walk-ons...
Just maybe that rant a couple years ago against his own players in which he mocked and ridiculed them - had far worse impact on those players' desire to play for him than some in the media who kinda-of glorified Barry for that rant - could see.

Not widely reported this summer, was that Barry then weirdly backed up his rant against his own players - with a followup rant against their parents!! (and some in the media gave Barry more kudos for the 2nd rant - that quite possibly was the last straw for Bola)

If you want to go back to when Barry was hired to start the 2012 season (roughly four years ago...)
then the number of players who have left with eligibility is Geno-Ford-esque.....at least 16 scholarship players and at least 22 overall.
The substantial ones & contributors: Bryer, Daniels, Setty, Swan, Taylor, Whitt, Olaniyan, Pendleton, Filyaw, Gibson, Goodwin,
      Caroline, Glotta, Lavender, Postell, Roscoe
The less substantial & walk-ons: Goff, Bolts, Bonifield, Heins, Mannie, Siler
