Ryan Stipanovich is coached at DeSmet HS by former Missouri State and NBA player Blake Ahearn. He is the nephew of former University of Missouri and Indiana Pacers player Steve Stipanovich.
Here are a few additional links--
Ryan's sister, Sydney Stipanovich, is also a pretty good basketball player. She will be a senior at Penn, and has been All Ivy league her first 3 years, including unanimous 1st team the last 2, and she was the Ivy League Player of the Year last year, and Defensive POY her first 3 years. -
Sadie Stipanovich (40) Center - Career Statistics & Career Highs
Concluded her career as SLU's all-time points leader (1,585) and tied for the Billikens' career
I know the guys responsible for the headlines aren't always the ones writing the articles...
but the headline on Page 1 of the PJS says...
"BU signs 6-foot-7 shooting guard"
On paper we will be overcommitted by one...but that will work itself out.
Last year it worked itself out....
-we headed into 2015-16 with all 13 scholarships filled
-then before the season started, Warren Jones was dismissed, leaving us with 12 scholarships filled.
-we knew two players (Ka'Darryl Bell & Mike Shaw) would graduate so with the open Warren Jones scholarship, we had 3 open scholarships to fill by spring
-in the summer & fall of 2015, both Koch Bar & Nate Kennell verballed to Bradley then in early November 2015 they signed LOI's
-that left us then with just one open scholarship to fill in the spring
-almost immediately, on November 29, 2015, Jayden Hodgson verballed
-so as of November 29, 2015- we had no open scholarships for 2016, but we knew our staff was still recruiting and offering...
-then......on Feb. 7, 2016 we got yet another verbal from Darrell Brown, Jr. - putting us one over on commitments for 2016-17
-we stayed one-over until March 11, 2016 when three players were released (Okafor, James, Cooper) - that left us with two more open scholarships
-the final two were filled on April 8, 2016 by Jerome Merritt and April 29, 2016 by Jojo McGlaston
so we were over-committed by one last year and it worked out fine, and I suspect it'll work out fine again this year.
BTW - Ryan has changed the photo on one of his social media pages
and I ran across a comment on one of the premium Wyoming msg boards that they were bummed because they had made Ryan one of their top targets and had recently been to visit him for a home visit.
..from just a couple weeks ago... "New Wyoming basketball coach Allen Edwards played a game of meet the new guy
on Monday as he and assistant coach Jeremy Shyatt flew to Saint Louis .." ...to meet Ryan Stipanovich for a home visit...
