  • WhyTauai?

J.J. Tauai played another bad game against SIU. To contribute J.J. needs to be consistent from about the 3ft to 6ft range which he isnt. He needs to cut down on turnovers and throw crisper passes. He also needs to be more of a leader if he is going to be the captain. Well i dont blame him for not being a leader because he doesnt have the skill or stats to back up the position.

Yes, let's discuss the fact that JJ had one of the biggest baskets of the entire game, when Bradley desperately needed a hoop. He beat Falker down the baseline and threw it down for a nice dunk. I'm not saying he's playing as well as he did down the stretch last year, but the instant he makes a few mistakes it becomes the JJ hatred show.

He's probably the best man to man defender on the team and that his most important role. He makes some silly turnovers but he's a key part of this team.
      Go Braves!

Yep. Sure is...but I guess if we don't dunk with "style points" it doesn't count for 2 points??

ok, tauai can make a wide open dunk, but what he cant do is protect the ball. All the turnovers are just killing us, he comits lots of turnovers, and he also leads to other players turning the ball over. He needs to improve his ballhandeling, and make wide open shots before I will give will give him any credit. Let's hope his leadership makes up for lack of skill.

I think the defensive contributions are enough to make up for him struggling on the offensive end. Which he is.

Tators you are definitly entitled to your opinion but you are wrong about Tauai. He might not be the best player to ever put on a uniform but he gives Bradley intangibles that this team has to have. He might not look like a leader on the court in your eyes but there has to be a reason his teammates voted him for 2 consecutive years as a captain.

Personally, I have only complete respect for him as a player, he could have quit on this team last year and if he would have we would have never made the NCAA tourney let alone gotten our program to the point of respectablity it is at today. He might not be the reason but it is pretty obvious this program changed when he began playing consistantly. His play is not always pretty but it is always needed and appreicated atleast from this BU fan.

Turnovers, what are you talking about?

The 4 guards who start most of the time:

                        JC 23 TO 434 min 0.053 TO/min
                        JJ 28 TO 504 min 0.056 TO/min
                        WF 38 TO 605 min 0.063 TO/min
                        DR 35 TO 474 min 0.074 TO/min

This is dead on. Unfortunately (and I'm not saying this is the case here), I think people only believe a "captain" is the leading scorer on the team or something. I know that's a simplified view but I think some people actually think this way. So it may be stunning that someone who isn't one of the top few priorities on offense, but he leads through his heart, defense and things that don't show up in the scorebook.

I used to complain about JJ. His soph year was far from what his expectations were predicted. His free throw percentage was about 50% and his field goal percentage was about 25%. I used to e-mail Jim Les not to play him. But last year toward the end of our conference season, Les started JJ and our team played better. When our team beat Northern Iowa last year at their home court on senior night, it was because of JJ. That win was so big toward the post season tournaments. I have learned to trust Les in his decisions about playing time.
