St. Louis media chatter on who ought to be hired to coach Mizzou - who are currently 5-13 and 0-6 in SEC
They like Cuonzo Martin but doubt they could pry him away...
Missouri State's PAUL LUSK's name comes up

how the tide turns so quickly...
just less than 2 years ago, NC State's Mark Gottfired was a hot name among DI coaches
He took a team to the Sweet Sixteen that nobody thought had a chance
Without the superior recruiting of Mark Gottfried, the Wolfpack would have never sniffed a Sweet 16 appearance.
Then a little over a year ago - he was rewarded with a big raise and extension - $2.5 mil per year thru 2020
...now they want him fired ASAP

North Carolina State has now announced that Head Coach Mark Gottfried has been fired
NC State has made the decision, after three straight blowout losses, to fire coach Mark Gottfried at the end of the season.
But the strange twist is that he will remain and continue coaching until the end of this season.

when Drake's Ray Giacoletti stepped down, right away Jeff Rutter won six of their next ten games and lots were saying they should just give Rutter a long term contract...
Well- sentiment has changed..
Now Drake has lost seven in a row and are knocking on last place again.
The general thought in Des Moines can now better be described as let's look this over a bit first and see who might be available in March-April
Drake - Ray Giacoletti steps down - Jeff Rutter is interim
George Washington - Mike Lonergan fired - Maurice Joseph interim
Morehead State - Sean Woods steps down - Preston Spradlin is interim
NC State - Mark Gottfried fired
SMU - Larry Brown steps down - Tim Jankovich hired
Tennessee-Martin - Anthony Stewart was acting as Interim Coach - Anthony Stewart hired as permanent Head Coach

Pete Thamal at Sports Illustrated says:
Prepare for Chaos: This year's coaching carousel will be the most active in years
...intriguing jobs like NC State and South Florida have already opened.
This projects to be a busier than normal year on the coaching carousel, as at least 35 jobs are expected to open from firings alone. As one industry source succinctly put it this week: “It’s going to be bananas.”
...vacancies at LSU, Missouri and Illinois have been considered forgone conclusions for months
A high volume of jobs also means reverberations from sitting head coaches leaving for other jobs, especially if projections are correct and multiple high-major coaches make later moves. Names like Indiana’s Tom Crean, Baylor’s Scott Drew, Cal’s Cuonzo Martin and Wichita’s Gregg Marshall have gained significant buzz. “There’s going to be a lot of trickle-down,”
Interesting read on which other big program coaches may get fired, and who might move up. There is no mention of the Missouri valley.
He projects Gregg Marshall and Dan Muller as potential candidates to replace John Groce at Illinois. He also thinks Indiana's Tom Crean could go, and maybe even Thad Matta.
He projects that Lorenzo Romar may be out at Washington. I doubt that will happen though, since Romar has the #1 player in the country signed for 2017 (Michael Porter, Jr.)

Speculation that Nebraska's Tim Miles could be out
Nebraska A.D. Shawn Eichorst gave a strong response on his thoughts on Tim Miles and the Husker basketball program.
Momentum building for the Illini to open the bank account and pay whatever it takes to get Gregg Marshall
...but talk also that NC State, Indiana and others will also be calling...
The Illinois basketball is likely to need a new head coach after the season. Here is the case for Gregg Marshall as the new HC.
There's talk that another deal like what the Illini gave to Lovie Smith might interest Marshall -
something like a 6-8 year deal for job security and maybe $4 million plus per year

Drake officially opens their coaching search. They announce a national search will be conducted for their next head coach.
Current (interim) Head Coach Jeff Rutter to be included on the list of candidates, and that he is a "strong candidate"-
It seems by praising Rutter as they did, but not offering him the job, they are not likely to hire him, IMO.

thanks...
FGCU wins yet another CHAMPIONSHIP!!! and automatic to bid the to NCAA - congrats to KK!
Amazing - for a team that had littleNCAA history prior to Kavanagh getting there...
now in the Ken Kavanagh era they have accomplished an NCAA men's basketball appearance THREE times since 2013 and they have a winning record in NCAA games (3-2)
They also have an NIT appearance in 2014 so they've been to the post-season FOUR of the last 5 years under KK.
Flat out amazing what he has done for their athletic success.
They have only been DI for 9 years and they have won
57 regular season conference championships and tournament championships! FIFTY-SEVEN in just over 9 years.
They have only been NCAA eligible for post-season play for FIVE years and yet have, now, 17 NCAA appearances!! (and counting individual appearances in tennis - it's 25!)
I wonder if their fans are constantly grumbling and bitc*ing about the other teams at the bottom of their conference?
