The student section at last night's Indiana game coordinated some new chants. One of them was directed at the opposite side of the arena, comprised mostly of alumni and community fans, who are slightly older than the student population. The chant "stand up old people" was used several times during the game, and was considered offensive by some. The athletic director (Rick Greenspan, formerly from ISU) has taken steps to get the students to refrain fro using that chant.
IMO- If we are going to live in a politically correct world where someone is offended by usage of numerous terms that should not be offensive. Then this kind of chant should be stopped, too. How would people react if the chant was "stand up ***" (insert your own replacement term for any minority or segment of our population). This was clearly intended to be a derogutory insult, and I applaud the AD for taking action.
Anyone have an opinion?
