  • Bradley Basketball DBO

Our current DBO (Director of Basketball Operations) Rick Karius is leaving to take another position and Bradley (the AD & head coach) will make a new hire.

For those who are unfamiliar - the position of Director of Basketball Operations is a non-coaching position - they cannot directly recruit nor contact recruits, nor can they be directly involve in coaching during games.
They can and do work a lot behind the scenes organizing travel to away games, making contacts with other schools & coaches to set up travel, lodging, meal arrangements for the team & other personnel, and help at camps & with organizing other team activities.
DBO's at big schools get pretty good salaries, but it's less at the smaller schools.
Here's the actual job description for the current Bradley position.... LINK

BUT - here's a much more thorough list of DBO duties and responsibilities as listed in a job description for a DI DBO per an SEC school - LINK

Rarely an established coach will take a DBO spot - like Barry Hinson did at Kansas - LINK
..but in most instances the DBO is gonna be a lesser experienced guy who is somewhat just getting started at the DI basketball level with the hope of moving up...

Our past several DBO's - Rick Karius, JayDee Luster, Cole Pittis, Pat Beilein, Jeremy Crouch, Kyle Vogt, Eric Buescher...fit this bill.

Anyway - here are some names that might come up - ...

-AJ Guyton - gotta think his Indiana connection will make him appealing to the AD
-David Williams (Manual coach and now juco coach)- already has the familiarity & credentials
-Brian Barone - great coach - time to get him back into coaching
-Mike Shaw - is he ready - he's not pursuing a pro career
-some other Marquette guy or Green Bay guy that Coach Wardle is familiar with - perhaps an ex-player? Would Jeremy Crouch be interested?

Dodie Dunson (see list below with Jake - Dodie's on it, too - so was Rick Karius)
Willie Scott - currently at William Penn - LINK
    AJ Guyton
Mitchell Anderson - coaching pro Chicago Steam
Jake Eastman - check out this link, he's looking for a DBO position - LINK
Sam Maniscalco - I have to think he'd be a GREAT option
    Danny Adams
    The Augustana coach Grey Giovanine
...maybe a package deal to land the DePaul DBO plus Tommy Hamilton

and here's a name from the past.....former member of the Bradley Athletic Dept. ...left Bradley AD staff in December 2012
Rob Bogardus....well liked, great guy...he's currently at a DIII school - maybe he'd like to make the jump to DI - LINK LINK

well, our DBO spot is filled, but surely we can find a spot for him somewhere!
Maybe the Assistant Sports Info ?

The announcers for the game last night were surprised he hasn't been hired as a head coach somewhere yet.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

A.J. played at Indiana from 1996-2000. Dan Dakich, the color announcer last night and tonight, was an assistant coach there under Bobby Knight from 1985-1997 when he left to become head coach at Bowling Green. So Dakich probably helped recruit A.J. to Indiana, coached him there, and knows him well.
