  • A couple new 2016 juco names

It appears the Bradley coaches are still looking at juco big men with the last open scholarship. Here are 2 new names that have just emerged-

Tre'Darius McCallum- 6'7" forward from Indian Hills CC-

Elliott Smith- 6'6" forward from Harcum CC-

    A Couple of New JC....

A couple of "Ho-Hum" JC leftovers. We sure as He.. don't need to waste a scholarship on these kind of players. This sounds alarmingly like what Geno did.
Cummon Brian, you apparently struck out on some top players this spring so pick up the pieces and lets point to next fall. You are not going to rebuild Bradley with guys like these.

For the record Wiz, neither one of these most recent 2016 recruits appear to have been offered by Bradley. But I am in favor of adding anyone who can help this team be better and more competitive next year. IMO, it does not do any good for a scholarship to lie idle all year and for the team to play 1 man short when we are already lacking talent and experience.

..with all due respect to you & to the leftovers...
it's kind of a fact of life that with rare exception, the only UNSIGNED, UNCOMMITTED juco players left in the spring are either
-not DI caliber (plenty of those and Geno found a few)
-late bloomers with potential, but lots of schools battling for them (Freddie McSwain)
-or they are unsigned for some real reason such as academics, eligibilty or off the court issues (Kendahl Amerson, Chris Blake)

We sorta learned this over the past few years -
the days of finding many really good juco kids this late have passed since with all the recruiting services and opportunities for easy access to their stats and the exposure events/workouts/etc...

But still, I respect that our staff has actually gone & seen them & evaluated them -
REMEMBER- about a year ago, just before GF left...we were prepared to go into the summer and fall of 2015 with multiple open scholarships and not a single committed recruit!

All of the reasons you listed are generally why they go to junior college in the first place.

Most of us agree that we need scholarships available for next year. Offering a scholarship to a JC, probably, means tying it for two years. If he can't offer the outside shooting that we so badly need, this scholarship would best be held to next year.

Giving a scholarship to a junior college transfer would give us immediate help and also balance out our scholarships. We need to balance the amount of scholarships per class. If we don't, even though we aren't very good, we will be basically rebuilding when our freshmen are seniors. We will lose 5 scholarship players that season. I don't want to go through having a freshman dominated program again.

Even if the coaches want to have the scholarship for 2017, there is the option of recruiting one of the many 5th year grad transfer kids on the market. There may not be any such transfers that are high level talents, but there are some that could help this team.

You are right!! We are not going to get high level recruits. We can however get average to above average transfers as recruits for next year. Going into next season we are essentially the same team that lost 27 games a year ago. Yes, we will be a year older, but so will everybody else. It's not like we are the only program that has players that improve. I am disappointed we still haven't addressed our biggest need in the program....a shooter. It's a good thing I don't gamble, because I would have bet the ranch, our coaching staff would have brought in at least one shooter with either college or junior college experience.
