Jerome Merrit can't be too bad. Rivals has him as a 3 star and our coaches think enough of him to go to Fla. for a private workout. Somehow, I suspect that we may get a "surprise" of some kind yet this spring. If we don't, I agree that we should hold 2 scholarships for next fall.

On the other hand, he is still uncommitted with only 2 other low-major offers (FIU and UNC-Greensboro) this late in the recruiting cycle. He played at a small Christian high school, and mostly against smaller, less talented small-school opponents. The fact that our coaches did offer a scholarship suggests to me that they see potential in him, but from what I see on the few available video clips, I am not sure he'd be much help next season. Remember we thought the same thing a year ago about another Florida kid, Scottie James.
Even Coach Wardle has suggested publicly he'd like to get a juco or two who would provide immediate help, so I think we will hear more names eventually.

It would be great to get at least one junior college player that would be a step in starter. We need maturity, balanced recruiting classes and players that are of immediate help. We cannot afford to have anymore "project" players at this time. I have to believe, the better junior college and high school players already know what their top couple of choices are, if not their top choice. I'm sure Wardle has a pretty good shopping list. We will see what he comes home with. A good gauge will be the schools we have competed against, with the players we sign.

There are some juco kids still available who put up great numbers at their jucos. Since I have not actually seen them, I cannot say how D1-ready they might be, or if they have qualifying issues, but there are always some who make an impact at D1 and who are signed late.

Like this kid- he is originally from Hillcrest HS in Country Club Hills, and starred at South Suburban CC averaging over 26 points per game-
        Jovan Mooring-

Also, many of the top scoring shooting guards in juco, along with the top rebounders and 3-point shooters are still uncommitted. So there is still a good chance our coaches find someone who can help.
