          • Nice article about the Braves' win last night-
Josh Verlin (@jmverlin) Just a little more than 10 years after they became one of the feel-good stories of March Madness the Bradley Braves are making another run in a big-time tournament. In 2006, the Braves upset some of the top programs in the country to make an appearance in the Sweet 16,

            And an Andrew Warren tweet-

And brief quarterfinal summaries from The Basketball Tournament-

            • The Always a Brave team has been extremely fun to watch!
FIVE 1000-point scorers there, plus two more (Warren & Lemon) who are on injured reserve.
The rest only stayed 2 years but had huge impacts.

Lawrence "Boogie" Wright, Zach Andrews, DA, JJ Tauai, and even Sam Singh contributed on that 2006 Sweet Sixteen team - nice to see DA & JJ at the alumni game event with his two beautiful daughters, and to see Zach there in Philly with the team - and hope to see Boogie & Sam in New York!

ps- Lemon was our last 1000-point scorer and he achieved it in 2013 - so we had more than a dozen 1000-pt scorers from 2001-2013 and none since - plus virtually ZERO chance of even getting another one 'til at least 2019! This long gap in talent & players capable of scoring was FALLOUT from one boneheaded move.

Great to meet you Dubl R 1! Safe travels!

I'm going to try and make the game at Fordham next Saturday. The fact they moved it to the 5 pm EDT time slot is actually better. You don't want to be in that area after dark.

                Go Braves!

                • An added bonus to all of this is that it has to help Coach Wardle in his present day recruiting. Any time you can keep the Bradley name out in the sports world like this has to make an impression on present day recruits. The desire and passion former players still have for the school after they have graduated shows the impact Bradley had on their lives.

                    • What a great post by Marcellus Sommerville

He has said it best it's started from our foundation or brand of basketball we
were taught at Peoria High School ....

AJ deserves all the love, no doubt, but let's take this opportunity to also
recognize the amazing culture that helped shape AJ, as well as Marcellus and
Daniel (and Shaun), and those responsible for that culture. AJ, Marcellus and
Daniel are the fruits of a tree whose branches include coaches like Buescher,
Darling, Westendorf, Ruffin, players like Beau Smith, the late Ryan Bundy,
Chris Reynolds, Charles White, Mike Hughes, Tyrone "Snake" and Jerrance
"Little Snake" Howard, Rhea Taylor, Jack Forcine, Tony Wysinger, Ivan Stone,
on down the line (can't name them all), and the parents and aunts and uncles
and families and teachers and neighborhoods who really are the roots of the
                      whole thing.
And understand that the Peoria High School tree grew as it did at least partly
so as not to be lost in the shade of the Peoria Manual tree, nor the
Richwoods tree (no disrespect Woodruff, Spalding, Bergan, or Notre Dame).
The same thing was happening all over Peoria and Peorians all know the
                      names.
We all made each other better. I, for example, got to play college basketball
not because I was highly motivated (as a dipshit teenager, I wasn't), or
highly talented (definitely wasn't), but because I had a deep, sincere love of
basketball, because I came up in a culture that shared and nurtured this
love, and mostly because Peoria made me have to be good just to
participate, just to earn the privilege to wear a high school jersey, just to
play alongside and against other Peoria basketball talent. Chris Reynolds
made me have to be good just to (occasionally, as it were) get the ball
across half court. Howard Nathan made me have to be (relatively) good just
to be only mildly embarrassed, versus soul-crushingly embarrassed, by him.
Chuck Buescher made me learn how to play the game the right way, all the
time, no excuses. He made me earn every opportunity I got, and the
opportunities I didn't get? I earned those, too. And I am incredibly thankful
for this — for coming up during the time that I did in Peoria, and for all the
people involved in the game during that time.
Quick shout-out to Haussler Hall — thanks Haussler!
What Always a Brave is doing in the TBT is a demonstration of and reflection
                      of a culture that existed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 years ago — as far back as I
can remember. Bradley Basketball, to a certain extent, was a reflection of
this culture, too. It's not a coincidence that the Sweet 16 run was uniquely
Peoria-area-bred. And it's not hard to imagine any of the guys playing
alongside Daniel and Marcellus and Jeremy Crouch (Pekin), and for AJ and
Coach Buescher, in a Manual or Central or Richwoods uniform. Well,
imagining Patrick O'Bryant as such is a stretch — we just don't make
"footers" here. I mean this as a sincere compliment (and thanks) to all the
                      Bradley Peoria "adoptees."
Last thought: The symbolism of Coach AJ Guyton, with Coach Chuck Buescher
at his side, calling out "four corners!" is not lost on this PHS Basketball alum.
I think I speak for a lot of people that this gave me a huge smile.

                      Much love and appreciation!

uh oh...you better not watch as ESPN broadcaster Fran Fraschilla just tweeted that he's going to do a lot of research on the 2006 Braves for the upcoming broadcast of the next game - so you're gonna hear a lot about the past and about JL!

                            "Fran Fraschilla
Doing my homework on @OnceABrave for next weekend's @thetournament semis.
Some great stories from Bradley's '06 Sweet Sixteen team."

If Dan Dakich's comments (like JG "ruining the program") were that good and right on the money- then can't wait to hear what Fran says.

Fran is a class act...now I'm not saying Dakich isn't but he's certainly no Fran Fraschilla......I'm sure he'll bring up Les some as well he should. Give Les his due...with a lot of help from Chuck of course.

I think all Bradley fans appreciate the part Chuck played. But in fairness, Chuck was not on the Bradley staff until 2005, well after all those players were at Bradley.
Give Jim credit for landing every one of the 2005-06 players.
