How many 10-seeds that really deserved a 13-seed can get to the Sweet 16 without facing at least someone from the Power Conferences?

Syracuse may still prove me wrong if they beat #11 seed Gonzaga (who was actually seeded worse than Syracuse) - but they've been handed a true gift of the easiest path to the Sweet 16 I think I have ever seen.

the tournament is always luck of the draw though....seedings are always a little bit of a mystery....everyone thought MSU would get a 1 seed and getting a 2 seed instead....who knows what happens if they get a 1..maybe Middle Tennessee loses first round.......

it only looks like an easy path because of 3 upsets......that's what happens when you have 2,3, and 6 go down early

I am sure you recall this...
a couple years ago Syracuse was so desperate to win that they cheated, and altered the grades for some of their players as well as paid them and hired secretaries to do their papers for them - plus gobs of other serious violations...as well as the ultra-serious "Lack of Institutional Control" finding that could have shut them completely down!!!

They got caught and even admitted to the blatant cheating and NCAA violations... but the penalties didn't hurt too much - just forfeiting some past wins (who does that really hurt?) and some other slaps - and even tho this is the year they are absorbing their penalties (some recruiting restrictions and Boeheim wasn't allowed to coach the first 9 mostly-meaning less games) - link link link
they still got in the NCAA tourney and got all the favorable seeding & matchups as if NCAA wants to let them have a free ride to the Elite Eight.

Some say this just proves that CHEATING DOES PAY!!!
Does cheating pay? Apparently it did for Syracuse University when it came to the school's basketball team. The NCAA: "From 2001-02 through 2011-12, the school failed to exercise proper control over the administration of its athletics program and used deficient monitoring systems, which allowed violations to occur involving academics, compliance with [...]

As if their programs are clean - the Big 12 Commissioner went public with his comments on Syracuse...that YES- cheating pays!!!

Well I don't disagree that they should have been ineligible this year.....but I don't know about a free ride......everyone thought MSU would win and the Zags aren't a gimme....just ask SH and Utah

FGCU hosted a Women's NIT Sweet 16 game vs. Hofstra and sold their place out!
It's amazing what good leadership can do...their Men's BB, Women's BB, and several of their other sports programs are successful year after year.

They host Michigan in the next round. Tonight, FGCU drew about four times what Michigan has been drawing in their four home NIT games

Where the heck did they get that leadership? this is a school that wasn't even DI a few years ago and did not even exist at until about 25 years ago.
They're so successful that their biggest worry is that their head coaches keep being targeted by bigger schools to hire away...
It is amazing what Ken Kavanagh has accomplished there in seven years.
