that is what was speculated earlier - the key word there is "budget"..

His team finished 22-10, tied for 4th place in the MVC and likely will get a "bid" to play in one of the newer "buy-in" post-season tournaments.
However Barry seems to know that they may not be able to do so and play in any such events because the costs would be prohibited under the current environment of a state budget crisis...
"Hinson said the program may not participate in any postseason tournament where it has to pay
to play because of the Illinois government’s budget situation."
    ......

so I doubt any of the MVC teams with losing records will play in the post-season, so that leaves only
Wichita State, Evansville, & Illinois State who will get bids to a post-season tourney -
plus, of course, UNI already knows because they get one automatically.

PS- Evansville reports attendance way up this year
With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the final attendance tallies have been tabulated and attendance is up across the board for the University of Evansville men's basketball program.

Thank you Bruce Rauner. Soon you will have several empty college campuses to sell to the University of Pheonix or other for-profit colleges

Spfld - do you know that Illinois has two houses in their legislature - just like most states - a House & a Senate.

The House is controlled 71 seats to 47 (60.2%) and the Senate is controlled 39 seats to 20 (66.1%) by the Democrats....
Facts are facts - they have a VETO-proof supermajority in BOTH houses of the Legislature...so....

How in the world can you blame the Governor?

Plus - the horrible financial, in fact near-bankrupt situation in the state - comes at the end of TWELVE straight years (2003-2015) of a Democratic governor plus huge Democratic majorities in BOTH houses...
that one party has had full control of everything in the state for the past twelve years and the state is a near-disaster, losing businesses, going bankrupts, crime, loss of jobs, etc. In 2015 the people spoke and "hired" a new Governor - trust me, the mess is not his fault.

Actually the Democrat supermajority in the house is false as one representative has been siding with Rauner which is why Groups affiliated with the REPUBLICAN governor have spent nearly 3 million dollars in a DEMOCRATIC primary race!

Also, the governor will not negotiate on a budget until the democrats agree to his anti-Union agenda!

Just to be clear, I have always voted mostly Republican and feel that there is plenty of blame on the Democrats for the mess in this state but currently Bruce Rauner is on track to do far more damage in his first year and a half then they did in the last 12 years! As it is now the backlog of unpaid bills in the state will have gone from around $4 billion when he took office to nearly $12 billion by July!

Illinois is still spending a lot of money of college sports. One example is the Depaul arena that is going up at taxpayer expense. How about cutting out some things like this in favor of distributing these funds to colleges to use? I'm not sure who is footing the bill for the U of I stadium upgrade.

I don't live in Illinois. However, a lot of shortages can be controlled by cutting expenses for items that are not really needed.
