  • Interesting scandal brewing

Multiple schools have spent big money in the Canarias...that end up at Canarias Academy - then those schools land top recruits from Canarias Academy - Hmmm...
(btw- no Valley schools implicated - BU has one player from Canarias Academy but we've never spent a dime there

This could lead to a decertifying of Canarias Academy if the NCAA checks into it and finds the same kind of recruits-for-$$ that have happened with certain AAU programs and prep schools.

speaking of Minnesota, they must not have gained much benefit from this shady deal to land players from Canarias...they are getting demolished by the Illini in the Big Ten Tourney 80-43

and anyway - the Canarias players have made good mid-major players but none have ever substantially benefited a big time school so why are they gambling like this with major violations?

This is clearly a big cheating scam, and a back-door loophole that these schools believe they have stumbled upon to be able to "buy" talent for their basketball team.
I can understand why some of the teams do it since their people are known to cheat if it stands to benefit them (it is not a coincidence that 2 of the schools happen to have coaches named Pitino), but I am surprised that the cheaters include Bryce Drew.

The NCAA, which seems oblivious to these things until some reporter digs them up and reports them, needs to close this loophole in the rules, and investigate what appears to be a cheating scandal where money changes hands directly related to landing recruits. They need to ban any and all recruits from this CBA from being recruitable by NCAA schools
