  • MVC tournament in St. Louis

Dave Reynolds article in today's PJ Star mentioned this--

A record 6,708 all-session advance tickets for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament were sold prior to the Jan. 1 cutoff date, besting last year's previous mark of 4,067. Wichita State sold 2,450, more than double the record of 1,215 that Shockers fans bought last year. ... Other schools, in order of sales: Creighton 1,210, Southern Illinois 1,175, Missouri State 658, Bradley 400, Northern Iowa 231, Illinois State 200, Evansville 178, Indiana State 106 and Drake 100.

If anyone is still planning to go to St. Louis, here is some hotel info.
The Bradley team is staying at the Renaissance Grand Hotel again for the 3rd straight year. But that hotel, and an affiliated hotel across the street, the Renaissance Suites Hotel, do not list any rooms available for the March 2, 3, 4 weekend of the tournament. There may still be some rooms that become available just prior to the tournament, as many hotels release rooms they had held back or reservations get cancelled.
But most hotels in the downtown St. Louis area are currently sold out for that weekend.
There is something called the Missouri Valley supplemental fan block available through the St. Louis tourism office. They have some rooms at downtown hotels at a reduced rate. Fans need to call them direct at 800-916-8937 to book those rooms. But hurry, as they are also running out of rooms.

As noted in Dave's article, there have been a record number of full-session tickets (670 sold to the tournament, so it will be crowded. That number does not include sales of tickets to individual sessions which will continue until the tournament. This year's tournament should be rockin'!

Here is where you'll find more info about the tournament. If you click on the link for Hotel Information on the left side of the page, it will show where each team in staying.--

Thanks for the reminder. I had been putting off getting a hotel since I was a little uneasy about the Braves.

I just got a room at the Millennium for $40 (pre-tax). I stayed there many times and have enjoyed the camaraderie of the other Valley fans. I'm sure I'll go by the BU hotel too.

I think it was about '02 when I had the most trouble getting a room. There was a jr. high national tumbling tournment or something like that in St. Louis that weekend and they took a bunch of rooms.

I got it off hotwire. It looks like there are still some rooms there, but for a few more dollars ($55+tax).

If you don't mind staying outside of downtown and taking the metra, they have a few really cheap ones. I tend to spend a good amount of time at the Landing, so I go for the downtown hotels.

For anyone having trouble finding rooms in St. Louis, across the river in Collinsville is a pretty good bet. The hotels aren't quite up to the standards of the Millenium or Adam's Mark, but there are quite a few options, and it's only about 10-15 minutes from downtown.

Remember if you stay in Illinois you can park for free at the Casino Queen and take the Metro to the Savis, Kiel, Ameritrade Center.

I cant make it this year for only the 2nd time since the tourney has been in STL. Of course the other time I missed Deon hit his shot, maybe we will have that great magic this year without me.

              Just hang out at Mcgurks.

I think they still give free room/board/beer (for Irish musicians).

I will be there on Friday and will be staying downtown. Any thoughts on whether tickets will be available priro to the games or should I get the all sessions pass.

their are always tickets available outside. It just depends on how much demand there is to determine the price (supply/demand). Try to avoid the "professional" ticket scalpers and find the real MVC fans with tickets. It will probably save you a couple $$'s

I'm pretty sure that upper bowl seats will still be available at the box office also.

I'm wondering about hotels, i'm cheap and don't want to pay $209.00 a night.

Try this...I got a room for $110.00 a night...they may have some rooms for less than that.

Another Murph to try is Priceline. Just make sure you put in your DOWNTOWN for your order.

I have heard lots of people getting really good deals at nice hotels that way.

Here are some UNI guys that had some good success:
