  • Loyola vs. Wichita in quarterfinals

about ten minutes into the game and it is very apparent that Loyola is gassed...
Musta been that it took so much out of them playing Bradley that they are spent...

They have now hit only 1 of their last 13 FG attempts, they are 1-5 from the arc, and they are losing to Wichita 14-7.
There's still plenty of time, especially since Wichita looks a little rusty from the layoff and has yet to hit a 3-pointer in 3 attempts...

btw- the game between Drake & Missouri State last night drew very poorly...
the attendance was listed as 6929, but that's due to the prior sales of tickets - especially the all-sessions tickets that all the Shocker fans bought up.....
in reality there were way fewer than during the Bradley game.

Missouri State's attendance recently has been dismal...only about 3000 at their late season home games, but with even half those seats empty...

Here's a recent story on how their falling attendance is a looming disaster and might require drastic action...
The cost of buying out Coach Lusk would prevent any reasonable chance it's gonna happen soon.

Having a hard time believing what I am seeing but Loyola has regrouped and playing well enough that they LEAD Wichita with about 3 minutes to go

      Current score
Loyola 55 - Wichita 53 with 3:00 to go - Shockers uncharacteristically a lot of turnovers

Loyola hung in there until the last 2 minutes but Wichita made some key plays down the stretch to hang on and win 66-58. Loyola got a little to tentative on offense the last few minutes. Ron Baker led the way for Wichita with 25.

Loyola had this game until under 3 minutes then Wichita re-took a 2-pt lead...
then things went bad for Loyola...
a critical turnover on the next possession, a foul then several missed shots in the final 1:54 ad Wichita was fortunate to get away with an 8-pt win..

again - a couple of the huge differences....FWIW...
          Fouls: Wichita 14, Loyola 21
Free Throws: Wichita 18-27, Loyola 5-11

In the 2nd game this afternoon-

Higher seed wins again, gets whistled for far fewer fouls and shoots far more FTs
          Northern Iowa beats SIU 66-60

It looks like Marshall feels like the refs were against them.

I sure didn't think the fouls called on Wichita were any different than those called on Loyola. Marshall seems to sound like he thinks his kids should get some kind of superstar consideration, kind of like the "Jordan Rules" that some claimed were in effect for Michael Jordan in the 1990's NBA.

                wow - I agree, what a crybaby...
in a game where the refs whistled almost 250% as many fouls on Loyola as they did on his protected superstars, I guess that still wasn't a wide enough discrepancy!
Heck - several of Loyola's stars were in foul trouble and TWO starters fouled out, and yet nobody on his team was in trouble - only two on his entire team even had asmany as THREE FOULS - so I have no clue what the heck he's bit**ing about
