grad transfer rule
The graduate transfer rule that allows players to transfer without sitting out a year after completion of their degree will continue to drain mid-major talent without some kind of reform.
not likely to go away since the big schools are cherry picking talent and getting better - filling the end of their benches with the top mid-major kids who provide help, scoring, and backup right away..

interesting discussion or two on the Illini boards...
as usual, happens every year (Maniscalco, Rice, Ekey, Thorne, Cosby, McLaurin Starks, Lewis), Illinois seems to be pursuing midmajor or low-major grad transfers...
Illini fans are mostly ticked that this would even be a consideration...
this has turned their school into a Transfer-U or Mid-major-U according to some fans - and hasn't really helped as Illinois as Groce has never finished higher than a tie for 7th and was 12th this year with gobs of turmoil - largely tied to prior transfers - Darius Paul, Rayvonte Rice, Aaron Cosby..
The top seven finishes since Bill Self left nearly a decade & a half ago were all by Bruce Weber- and prospects for 2016-17 are not looking good with half the team waiting out legal proceedings to see who is still left eligible to play.

Here are a couple recent transfer mentions regarding Illinois-
Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Hudson, a 6'5" sophomore guard and a starter most of last season. He averaged 8.4 ppg as a soph, but does not shoot the three particularly well. He rarely gets assists, and does not rebound much for a big guard. Looks like he would fit right in with all the other big guards on the Illinois roster who don't pass and don't shoot well.-
Louisiana Tech transfer Merrill Holden, a 6'8" junior forward who played 2 seasons at LA Tech, but because he played only 1 season at Pratt junior college before that, he would be immediately eligible and have 1 year of eligibility left. This past season at LA Tech he was 6th on the team with an average of 8.1 ppg. He also averaged 5.0 rpg, and lead the team in fouls and games fouled out even though he was 6th in minutes played. He logged just 2 assists on the season. Seems like he might be a poor-man's version of Mike Thorne.

Holden sounds like the kind of player that would be good for bu. He wouldn't tie up a scholarship for 2017. And we need bigs that can play right away imo. The only reason I can see for him to come to peoria would be playing time, but if he came it would be a perfect fit as far as I can tell.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.
