  • The 2016 transfer market

I really doubt our staff is looking to take a transfer - and if they did I have to think they'd want to maybe hold a spot in case Nate Taphorn is a grad transfer...

but we're going to start seeing players leaving now that we are near the end of the season...

There is a very intriguing rumor...that I have heard from a source or two
one of the talented Illini guards is looking to transfer...
Bradley is one of the schools that recruited him initially and is still (currently) recruiting his brother...and so Bradley is at least in the discussion
Nothing whatsoever officially so time will tell...

If one of the Bradley players happens to decide to join the transfer list, it's likely to be one of the guys at the bottom end of the playing time spectrum and they'd be looking to go where they'd get more playing time.

Here's the total minutes of the 5 scholarship returnees who played the least since Feb. 1st...

      Callum Barker 170 minutes
      Joel Okafor 58 minutes
      Scottie James 54 minutes
      Davante Cooper 34 minutes
      Alex Foster - redshirting

Also possibly factoring in..... we are bringing in three 2016 recruits who have point guard skills and experience..

I was under the impression Kennel was strictly a wing player. If Okafor does transfer because he thinks there will be a time crunch and he's on the outside looking in, I will miss him. He seems like a fun guy from the videos that they have posted. A team needs those guys at the end of the bench who buy in fully to what the coach says, tries hard in practice, and cheers loudly.

As Jerry Tarkanian once said "The secret is to have eight great players and four others who will cheer like crazy." Oak could be one of those four no doubt.
        Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

in college, probably yes...and that's really all he played last year averaging about 25 ppg...
but for 25 games so far as a senior for Metamora, he's been their full time playmaker & point guard and done a pretty good job, sacrificing his own scoring prowess for total team effort and getting his teammates all involved.

Northwestern's season may be done, although I wouldn't rule out a CBI bid
Nate Taphorn played and had an impact - and Northwestern almost beat Michigan.
They finish 20-12, 8-10 in Big Ten with an RPI of about 115.

addition of one or two grad transfers and one or two jucos plus our other freshmen coming in will help "balance the classes"

              Here's an odd one..
New Mexico's head coach CRAIG NEAL's son Cullen Neal is leaving and transferring and his dad says "I don't know where he's going"...
but he will have TWO years of eligibility..
Cullen Neal is leaving New Mexico and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. His father, Lobos coach Craig Neal, said he had no idea where his son would play next season.

Here's a comment or two on Nate Taphorn - who is not officially on the transfer market....yet

Taphorn is one of the hardest Northwestern players to really pin down in a few paragraphs. Next year, he'll be just one of two Wildcats -- along with Sanjay Lumpkin -- that was not recruited by...

this Northwestern writer seems to really trash Taphorn, and ya gotta wonder why does he continue to waste his eligibility there.

Interesting comment - Alec Peters as a grad transfer? - A concept that we speculated on here at BradleyFans weeks ago!

Also- Alec Peters' AAU coach Gavin Sullivan (who posts here occasionally) tweets that his phone
"has been going bananas like I have never seen" (presumably coaches and recruiters from big name schools)
...over the possibility of Alec Peters transferring as a grad transfer

I confess I don't know about all transfer rules but I have a couple of questions.

                    Can Peters graduate this year?
If not I wonder why an AAU coach would say his phone is blowing up...can other schools call him about transferring?
At what point when someone graduates can another school contact a player?

There are reports he will be able to get the work done that he needs to be able to graduate this summer.

There are no restrictions to calling and asking anything anyone wants of his AAU coach - recruiters call AAU coaches hundreds of times a day and ask about everyone they can think of.

They are supposed to be UNABLE to call or contact the player or his family until he receives his "release" (but that's not saying it doesn't happen all the time)
                      - which means that happens when Valpo releases him from the terms of his signed scholarship agreement.
Otherwise if he does anything before he gains his release then it is Alec who violates the terms of the agreement and there maybe repercussions - such as NOT gaining the release.
If you don't get the release first - then NO other school in NCAA can give him a scholarship - remember Anthony Grundy? Had to kill a year at prep school before he could go to Louisville.

So - they're calling Gavin Sullivan now to find out all the facts and whether Alec would be available and when..since they can't call him or his parents ...
then if they want him they have to start working asap to be sure they have a scholarship available for next fall even if he isn't available to offer and accept a verbal until late summer.
I cannot imagine any school or coach from Alcorn State to Duke, UNC, Kentucky, or Villanova that wouldn't want the kid - I suspect they will all be calling

Ha - betcha Alec's phone IS blowing up but that gets denied all the time...
doubt it would happen with Alec but often, then the parents get spotted driving Mercedes Benz' or Hummers and wearing expensive jewelry, but if it Duke or other big school - there's never an investigation...

Alex O'Neill, who was recruited by Bradley as a preferred walk on a year ago and who spent the last year at Creighton, has transferred to D2 St. Cloud State.
