  • School from MVC edits school song over "cultural and ethnic references" that are "troubling"

The North Dakota State Bison compete in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. In fact, they were the conference co-champions this past fall with a 13-2, 7-1 record.
Their school song is "The Yellow and The Green”, which has been used since 1908. Usually, only the first stanza is ever sung or referred to, but the song actually contains a couple more stanzas.
Now, 108 years after the adoption of the song as their school song, somebody points out that the song's 3rd stanza contains a politically incorrect reference to Native Americans as "the red man".
That causes the NDSU administration to immediately go ballistic, issue a press release saying they never knew about this 3rd stanza, and ordering that immediately all but the 1st stanza of the song be eliminated from all University websites and publications, and secondly, demanding that committees of faculty, staff, and student groups be formed "to study the song and offer recommendations on its appropriateness".
This link contains the actual words of the 3rd stanza that were found to be "troubling".

Wow, you'd think there was just a racially motivated mass murder committed on campus, but no, this is all about some obscure words written in a song 108 years ago!

Something similar happened a year ago at Utah - and pretty much only because a line in their fight song that says, "Our coeds are the fairest".

Speaking of racist - the media seems to have no qualms mocking Doug McDermott because he is a "white boy"..
