Congrats to Antoine!! He's been very consistent - a remarkable trait for a freshman - averaging 8.1 ppg overall and 8.1 ppg in MVC play but has stepped it up and is averaging 11 ppg over the past 8 games...even sometimes becoming our go-to guy!!
I can see he has been working hard & improving...starting to show a few Hersey-like moves to get to the hoop!!

As far as who is in the running for NEWCOMER of the YEAR and FRESHMAN of the YEAR..
I think the Newcomer is a foregone conclusion...

Junior college transfer Dequon Miller of Missouri State is currently Missouri State's best player, top scorer at 12.8 ppg,
and has won the Newcomer of the Week four times.
I think it would be hard for anyone else to unseat him.

BUT Miller is a junior juco transfer and NO FRESHMAN has won the Newcomer award more than once...
and the FRESHMEN who have won it are:
DLO, Jarrid Dixon (Missouri State), Luuk van Bree, and Antoine Pittman

Here is a current list of the top freshman scorers & rebounders in the MVC.
I think one of our guys has a great chance of winning Freshman of the Year in the MVC...indeed we could place 3 and maybe even 4 on the All-Frosh team
(but you'd be crazy to expect that as I am sure those who'd decide in the hierarchy of the MVC would never want that many from one team - they'd need to go with 'diversity')

      SCORING

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye 9.3 ppg - also tops among freshman in asst & A/T Ratio
Luuk van Bree 8.6 ppg - also tops among freshmen in 3-pointers & 3-pt pct.
      Ronnie Suggs 8.2 ppg

      Antoine Pittman 8.1 ppg - also 2nd in FT%
      Jarred Dixon 7.8 ppg
      Markis McDuffie 7.6 ppg
      Obediah Church 6.7 ppg
      Ryan Kreklow 6.7 ppg
      Dominik Olejniczak 5.4 ppg
      Callum Barker 4.9 ppg

      REBOUNDING
      Obediah Church 6.7 rpg
      CallumBarker 4.5 rpg
      Luuk van Bree 4.4 rpg
      Ronnie Suggs 3.9 rpg
      DLO 3.9 rpg

      Dominik Olejniczak 3.7 rpg
      Markis McDuffie 3.2 rpg
      Scottie James 2.8 rpg
      Antoine Pittman 2.4 rpg

      Ryan Kreklow 2.3 rpg
      Jarred Dixon 2.0 rpg

Donte Thomas is mentioned in this week's MVC Report as possibly ..
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER in the MVC

      "MVC’s Most Improved?
      Bradley sophomore forward Donte Thomas
is proving to be one of the most improved
players in the Missouri Valley Conference.
After averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds
per game as a freshman last season, Thomas
leads the Braves in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and
is the team’s second leading scorer (9.1 ppg).."

I don't think there's many players in the MVC who are regular players, among their team's leaders in every stat,
and who has more than doubled and even close to tripled their production since last season! I can find maybe only 1 who is even that close.
