  • Illinois State's Roland Griffin leaves school

Promising freshman Roland Griffin is reported to have left school and will apparently transfer to play elsewhere.
There are unconfirmed reports that there's more going on than just turf toe - possibly something more medically or ...who knows-
there are no other details being released currently

It has been rumored for two months that there's definitely more to this - either physical or psychological, even tho the cover story was that he's just sitting out because he has a jammed toe.... but fans could easily "read between the lines" and it was pretty clear Griffin was in coach Dan Muller's doghouse.

he definitely showed a lot of talent and potential... even had a couple games early in the season where he led the team in scoring.
...hope it all works out for him

Pls. keep Roland Griffin in your prayers. A 2nd Doc. has confirmed his season ending injury is not turf toe. https://twitter.com/JCTSports/status/701574190248415234 ??¦

But any injury - no matter how bad - ought to be able to get the very TOP attention and care from specialists - even the school would see to that!
BUT leaving school voids his scholarship and puts his education on hold...that's unfortunate -
again - there's obviously a lot that is being kept private - hope things work out for him...

his name on the roster and his bio page already purged from their entire system...
Bradley's system saves the bio pages for over a decade - LINK - even players who are dismissed - LINK, LINK

We obviously don't have the whole story, and I hate to speculate or doubt what has been said, but this mysterious and sudden departure for "undisclosed medical reasons", especially coming while he is suspended from the team for violations of team rules, certainly leaves many wondering how much can be believed.
ISU has a history of being secretive with player issues. Even going back to Jankovich, he tried to hide a couple players' repeated DUI's until it was outed by message boarders.
I hope whatever the issue is, Griffin gets well, and has success wherever he ends up.

The Trib coverage ...I guess I didn't know about the suspension for a brawl Griffin had in his high school's critical 1-point loss at the Super-Sectional level last year that cost them a chance to go to State..and sent Julian Torres to State instead.
West Aurora graduate Roland Griffin has left the Illinois State men’s basketball team for what were termed “undisclosed medical reasons,” in a school press release issued Sunday n…

It says he ".. decided to leave ISU, primarily due to medical reasons."
but that suggests there were secondary reasons that were not named..

            also..as for the reason...
"undisclosed medical reasons,".."We appreciate everyone respecting Roland's privacy with this matter..."
            and
"Two weeks earlier, according to multiple reports, Muller suspended Griffin indefinitely for what was termed a violation of team rules."

...sounding very much like a canned answer that also says - "you really have no right to know, so don't ask..."

I seem to recall that when Bradley players were held out, the press here demanded answers and called the coach a liar when the answers were not forthcoming...

Where does the word Brawl come from in that article?

The article says "he was involved in an altercation at the school during the day."

Interesting that you would turn that into a Brawl. That's not what happened.

              More quotes:

"I appreciate everything the team, coaches and administration did for me. I learned a lot from the best coaching staff in college basketball."

ok - altercation - aren't you getting pretty darned picky since each word (brawl, altercation) is listed as a synonym for the other in the thesaurus...

other articles said he was in a FIGHT AT SCHOOL - LINK
...so fight, altercation....whatever...then a suspension for team rules....seriously - go back and read the crap you ISU fans said when our guys got an arrest or suspension

I doubt a kid gets suspended for playing rock, paper scissors...

ex-ISU Redbird Roland Griffin now commits to Iona
not a huge step either up or down, but for a Chicago kid at a Texas juco - kind of an odd choice....given the frenzy and the bigger offers that get whipped around every spring

He has not been playing at Midland, so maybe he will maintain 3 years of eligibility....

Roland Griffin was injured early on but now that he's back playing for Midland (juco) he's averaging a surprisingly low 5 ppg, 5 rpg..
one of ISU's replacements coming in, William Tonsley has been averaging 6.8 ppg since early January as his team Lake Land has lost 5 of their last 6 games.

something's up with ex-ISU Redbird Roland Griffin..
after yet another scoreless game Monday, he's now averaging just 4 ppg, no longer even starting for Midland juco and hitting just 14% from the arc..
Iona, who landed a commitment from him may have 2nd thoughts?
