starter & key player Jaylon Tate arrested for domestic battery....
Jaylon's pretrial hearing- the accuser's name being prominently mentioned....
Jaylon's family, the coaches, and lawyers presenting sound evidence/claims that he is innocent.
Trial date set June 7.
One of their only reliable big guys Leron Black might be out of commission for a while......
arrested for a late Thursday nite act of pulling a knife on a bouncer at an Urbana night club..
the internal verdict is in on Leron Black...Coach John Groce will suspend him at the beginning of next season for their exhibitions and the first four regular season games.
Illinois coach John Groce says forward Leron Black has rejoined the team but will sit out the first six games next season after pleading guilty to misdemeanor aggravated assault.
the PJS has a little trouble with their math as they report the same story but when they add all the games together for their headline they state: "will sit out seven games"
so for pulling a knife in a bar and threatening to stab a guy, he will miss the same number of regular season games as WE did for taking a Vicodin.
Of the three Illini players with major court cases pending...
Leron Black - plead guilty to misdemeanor aggravated assault and will get probation & return to play after 7 game suspension.
Jaylon Tate - a couple days ago plead not guilty to charges of striking his girlfriend, so the case proceeds and may go to trial. No team discipline yet determined.
Kendrick Nunn - today plead guilty to misdemeanor battery in a plea deal that will get him "unsupervised probation" for an 18 month span plus 100 hours of community service. No team discipline yet determined.
Jaylon Tate & Leron Black reinstated, but Kendrick Nunn dismissed
..interesting, since all three caused by their willful actions severe embarrassment to the University & team....and they knew the facts almost 2 and a half months ago --
..some speculation by their fans that this could signal getting a grad transfer like (hopefully) Alec Peters...
the two top targets they are going after with recruiting for 2017 (both are Top 100), both just were set back with severe injury-related problems.....
Jeremiah Tilmon suffered a severe dislocation of his right shoulder with ligament damage and was unable to recover with conservative measures, so he just underwent surgery
Another black eye for the Illini- though this one not as bad as the several previous arrests since it does not involve a current player. Joseph Bertrand, who is from Sterling, Illinois, and who was part of the Illinois men's basketball team from 2009-2014 was arrested at the edge of the Illinois campus in Champaign around 1 AM Saturday morning for domestic abuse of his girlfriend-
...Joseph Bertrand, who is from Sterling, Illinois, and who was part of the Illinois men's basketball team from 2009-2014 was arrested ...
made bond & is out of jail but has court date Wednesday- eye-witness reports state: "Bertrand and his girlfriend were arguing outside shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of East John Street.
... Bertrand pushed the woman to the ground, causing minor injuries.
He said a passerby witnessed the incident and gave a statement to police.
Bertrand told police that both he and his girlfriend were being aggressive during the argument, as opposed to things being one-sided...."
well....regardless of what ends up happening- (and Champaign has been notorious for letting guys off the hook -- remember all those drunk, underage guys at the party with Jamar Smith and despite Carlwell almost being killed nobody was ever held to account on delivering the booze to the partiers, and the multiple times Darius Paul skeeted by, Jaylon Tate arrested for "allegedly slugging girlfriend" then let off, .... etc...)
.....this really shows stupidity...
the guy was ARRESTED on charges but hasn't had his court date yet - so of course the charges are not officially "filed". won't know 'til Wednesday, obviously.
More bad news for Illinois State as well. It is being reported that yet another one of their players just got another DUI. What is going on down there?
Muller needs to dismiss the violators instead of coddling them and even starting them like he did with Brewer.
