  • Faster tempo offense

The faster tempo offense last night was great! It clearly is a vast improvement
over walking the ball up the floor and added much more energy to our offense. We were not nearly as tentative. We seem to have pretty good team speed and now we are using it.

For the most part though it seems the stats are pretty much the same. We get about the same number of shots and ft's??¦.I think it is probably easier to watch even if we lose. I think some of these guys are improving their game even though it hasn't looked like it at times

Everything looks better when we win

Not sure what stats you are referring to that are pretty much the same. The important areas that we have been poor in (scoring, shooting percentage, and turnovers) have all been significantly improved with the faster tempo.

Our scoring and shooting percentage have been much better the last 3 games when the tempo has been faster. After not reaching 60 points since before Christmas (5 games in the 50's, 4 games in the 40's, and 1 game with 35), we have now scored 70, 71, and 63 points the last 3 games- the 3 highest scoring games since the Dec. 20 game at Boise State. The team was averaging only slightly over 50 points on the season before these last 3 games.

Also, the last 3 games were 3 of the best shooting games we've had all season- we shot 41% at Drake, 46% at Missouri State, and 44.4% last night vs. Indiana State, after averaging 30-33% all season. Our 3-point average has also risen over the past 3 games.
And, despite the faster tempo, we have had fewer turnovers these last 3 games. We had just 11 turnovers at Drake, 16 at MSU (only 3 in the 2nd half), and 14 last night, after leading the MVC with an average of well over 18 turnovers/game prior to these last 3 games.

but numerous times we looked to drive earlier in the shot clock - and even when we didn't, Coach Wardle hollered at our guys to drive and get to the paint..

Yes, this was the first time all year at home that Wardle kept imploring the players to move the ball faster up the court. It definitely seemed to benefit the offense.

I'll have to get back to you DC since I'm getting on a plane and unavailable for a few days. I don't think the shooting percentages were all that much different, particularly 3 point shooting A couple of shots either way can move the percentage 7-8 points

OK, here are the numbers.... Our shooting percentage over these last 3 games is 44%, compared with 33% in the first 22 games. I consider that a significant increase.

Our 3-point shooting over the last 3 games is 18-54 (8-22 at Drake, 8-22 at MSU, and 2-10 last night). That is 33.3%.
In the first 9 MVC games our 3-point shooting was 27%, and in all games it was 26%. Not as big of an increase, but still about 30% better than we had been shooting previous to the last 3 games.

Yeah??¦..I wasn't really looking at the whole season??¦just the last 6??¦..and that isn't really fair since it was ISUred, WSU,and UNI??¦??¦??¦I'm not saying playing uptempo hasn't helped but I think the guys are learning the game and playing better as well. Wardle has also done a good job moving guys around to to be more successful like getting Donte and Luuk into the post at times for better shots.
