  • How would you rank the Top 10 players in the MVC

use whatever criteria you want - NBA potential, value to their team, etc...

Here's my list - it does kinda drop off after the first 4 or 5...and NO, I will not put Jesperson on my list
1 - Egidijus Mockevicius - putting up numbers that haven't been seen in the MVC in 30+ years
2 - Fred Van Vleet - makes everyone on the team better
3 - DJ Balentine - best scorer in the league
    4 - Ron Baker
    5 - Anthony Beane
    6 - Devonte Brown
7 - Wes Washpun - check his assists to turnovers
    8 - Brenton Scott - hitting 44% on 3-pt and avg. 15.6ppg (50% & 18.9ppg in league play!)
    9 - Devaughn Akoon-Purcell - but a bit inconsistent
10 - Dequon Miller - consistent, good PG

I'm not sure where it would be, but i would have Reed Timmer in my top 10. Other than that, i mostly agree with those above.

I'm in agreement with most of your list...I look at it from the standpoint of "if I could add one player to my team for the rest of the season..."

      1. Fred VanVleet
      2. ee-GID-ee-us mos-KAV-itch-us
      3. Ron Baker
      4. DJ Balentine
      5. Devonte Brown
      6. Paul Jesperson (I'm biased at the moment)
      7. Wes Washpun
      8. Reed Timmer (highly underrated, but on a terrible team)
      9. Devaughn Akoon-Purcell
      10. Anthony Beane

While on this topic, here is a good follow of a guy that does a lot of statistical analysis of players in each league. I'm not sure exactly how his metrics work, but he tries to weigh people on "points added to an average D1 lineup when adjusted for a multiude of factors (SOS, Pace etc)".

The link above is the top 26 players in the MVC according to his rankings.

          I would put them:
          1. Fred VanVleet -- Has more intangible value as a leader than anyone in Valley.
          2. Egidijus Moceivicious -- Best stats guy.
          3. Ron Baker -- Absolutely shuts guys down on D. Plus great shooter equals great player.
          4. D.J. Balentine -- Probably the best offensive player in the league.
          5. Anthony Beane -- If Balentine isn't the best offensive player, Beane probably is.

Picking ten is difficult. The top five seem obvious then after that on any given night a whole bunch of guys could be the next best player.

The top three freshman are probably:
          1. Obediah Church
          2. Markiss McDuffie
          3. Ronnie Suggs -- Right now playing the best, I'm not sure who the third best freshman is going to be next week.
          Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

Actually those numbers were from 8 games and averaged them as they were 9 so they should be a bit higher

Yeah, those didn't include these Tu-Th midweek games, so Timmer and Beane will both be higher after having very good games.

I can't say it would be a deal breaker 100% of the time but...
there's just something troubling about a guy whose personal stats are good but his team never wins (Timmer)
