  • The 2016-17 Schedule

I know it's a little early and we don't know much yet but let's see what we do know..

-The only game we know for sure at this point is a home game vs. Nevada on December 3, 2016

    - we had two public exhibitions this season, so I expect we'll have two in 2016-17

-I also suspect will owe road games to Ole Miss, TCU, North Dakota, and maybe Ball State.
I don't think we owe New Orleans

-we ought to get a home game from Delaware, and the Mountain West opponent Nevada.

-and we'll probably get 3 games from at least one tourney in a warm location..

-then the 18-game MVC schedule and tourney in St.Louis.

-so there's still a few games to speculate on...maybe with Coach Wardle's connections, we can get Valpo or Green Bay, and I hope we land a couple more BCS opponents at home- maybe a home & home with Marquette?

    Anyone hear anything else??

Barry Hinson vows to upgrade SIU's schedule in 2016-17
...Barry thinking of doing a guarantee game on the road ...

"Hinson is considering playing a guarantee game next season in order to help
SIU's financial situation and aid the league's overall RPI. The Salukis got
$90,000 to open the 2013-14 season at Missouri but haven't played a buy game
since. The Missouri Valley Conference frowns on programs playing Power 5
conference teams on the road for guarantees because those games are
extremely tough to win, but SIU pursued one last season, Hinson said."

Hinson is full of you know what...

"But, what I want you to make people understand is when we signed Murray (State), we signed Murray to a four-year deal, and when we signed Murray we were at the bottom of our conference and they were at the top of theirs. When we signed Saint Louis they were at the top and we were at the bottom. Part of our schedule strength, we got killed this year because of Saint Louis, because of Murray State, and because of SEMO."
SLU (210) and Murray State (173) had very little do with SIU's SOS.

      SEMO (342)
      SIU E (306)
      North Texas (295) TWICE!!!

Along with a very poor MTE
      Florida A&M (349)

That's 5 games over 295! There is little wonder their non-conf SOS was in the 330's.

TCU just hired Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon but they do not return much talent from a 12-21 squad

they also have high scoring Missouri State guard Marcus Marshall

they are becoming Illini-West, stocking their lineup with multiple MVC retreads..

article in Pantagraph says Dan Muller is gonna upgrade next year despite the
"brutal nonconference schedule" they had this year. ??
They went 5-7 against non-conference & 1-6 against the Top 50, so they helped their opponents get a better record & RPI!

He also says he has "five of his top six players expected to return next season" - but they lost their top player Akoon-Purcell, and their top newcomer Roland Griffin - who was in the top 5 or 6 in every stat category.
There's also a hint that someone's ineligible...with the statement - "he expects everyone eligible to return next season"

"Road trips to Ole Miss and TCU and home games against Nevada and Delaware
are currently contracted with a neutral-court tournament in the process."

In that preview column by Wichita State beat writer Paul Suellentrop (posted here--> LINK), Dave Reynolds wrote this about the 2016-17 non-conference schedule-

How does the non-conference schedule look?
                    Still some work to do...

Evansville opens the 2016-17 basketball season with a road trip to LOUISVILLE
They also have home non-conference games vs. Murray State, Boise State, Bowling Green and Norfolk State.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A road contest at national powerhouse Louisville will mark the season opener for the University of Evansville men's basketball team as the program is formulating its non-conference slate for the 2016-17 season.

There have been comments that one reason we don't get Saturdays is that the Rivermen draw better than Bradley basketball...
I have always disputed that but now the data is overwhelming...

Has anyone seen the attendances for the Rivermen home games down the stretch??
Now, you gotta remember - the Rivermen had a GREAT year, and these games were exciting POST-SEASON games ...
                          but check this out...

                          -Friday night game April 15 - 925
                          -Saturday night game April 16 - 1001
                          -Friday playoffs April 22 - 1001
                          -Sunday 2nd round of playoffs - Sunday May 1 - 1861

-even some of the regular season games (season ticket holders) were low draws..well below their 3-4000 "announced" figure...
                          4/07 - 2217

seems it would benefit the Civic Center to be a little more friendly to Bradley, as the Rivermen numbers are slipping - a couple bad years and they might plummet the way BU's numbers did under Geno.

I thought the reason the attendance was down at the finals is because the Rivermen had to play at Owens Center as the Civic Center was already booked. There isn't much seating at the Owens Center and the seating is on metal bleachers. The Rivermen got as much respect from the Civic Center as Bradley has received in recent years.

don't know but numbers were pretty low
..but even on a bad day Bradley still draws 5,000-6,000, while the Rivermen almost never come close to that
